This is so heart breaking. Imagine not seeing your parents for 25 years, not even knowing if they're dead or alive in squalid hell holes. Including poor Ciham Ali. Just evil. Isayas is going to hell for sure.

Today, #Eritrean regime celebrates #SawaDay, we must not forget the reality: Sawa is a site of systematic abuse, indefinite military service &forced labor, Eritreans are fleeing for their lives to escape the horrors Celebrating this day is a mockery of their suffering.
Sawa, a slavery plantation camp, compelled all #Eritrean youth to undergo what is euphemistically termed “National Service”but is, in reality, a brutal form of military training and enslavement.
After finishing a secondary school like every #Eritrean youth, I went to Sawa at age 17 in 2012 for the 26th round, now a decade ago. My year in Sawa was one of the most devastating experiences of my life. Sawa is effectively a concentration camp where severe human rights violations occur regularly.
Upon arrival, we faced mentally unstable and sadistic military officers who drugged and divided us into isolated military brigades, units, and divisions. In Sawa not a day passed without beatings or torture. Every activity was dictated by the sound of a whistleblower.
I witnessed girls from the female military unit brought in as slaves to serve officers, subjected to rape and torture. These gross violations were perpetrated from the highest-ranking General of Sawa to the lowest-ranking officer.
We were coerced into praising and hailing the dictator under threat from military officers. Dictator Isaias' old comrades the key figures of #PFDJ regime like #Eritrea's Ambassador to Japan, Estifanos Afewerki, Minister of Information Yemane Gebremeskel, Ambassador Sofia Tesfamariam, and other regime cadres deceive the international community with misleading videos and pictures from Sawa.
Fearing for our lives, we had no choice but to comply to survive. Many girls aged 16-19 suffered severe distress, with some becoming pregnant after being raped, and others experiencing mental breakdowns.
Fortunately, I managed to escape from this nightmarish ordeal and the severe human rights violations perpetrated by the autocratic regime of #Eritrea. I am now in a position to expose the atrocities committed by these criminals both within and outside my country.
Since the establishment of Sawa many #Eritrean youths sent to Sawa have lost their lives in the #Ethiopia-#Eritrea border clashes and the recent #Tigray war. Some were shot and killed while attempting to flee the tyranny; others lost their sanity. Some are languishing in prisons, and many perished in the Sahara Desert, the Mediterranean Sea, at the hands of human smugglers, or in the Tekezé River.
Sadly, the propaganda and enslavement machine continues to operate, perpetuating gross human rights violations, torture, and abuse.
In conclusion, my experience at Sawa stands as a stark testament to the brutality and oppression imposed by the totalitarian #Eritrean regime under the guise of national service. It is urgent that the world acknowledges and confronts these grave human rights violations. The regime must be held accountable for its oppression and violence against #Eritrean youth.
My story is a call to action for justice and change. Together, we must stand against tyranny, empower our people, and advocate for a future where freedom and dignity prevail in #Eritrea. #Sawa36

This is NOT #Eritrean people’s war! Our nation is held hostage by one unelected man who denies us a constitution, elections & basic rights while gambling with our youth’s lives to maintain his grip in power🚨No #Eritrean youth should die for one man’s ambition🚨No mother should bury her child for a dictator’s political survival. He's right, when you or your family have imported yourself into the west seeking a better life, show a little humility and gratitude for your host country. Otherwise you know what you can do.
I pray one day my Eritrean people get to experience this, when the Isayas/PFDJ mafia cancer is deposed, after 30 years of sucking our blood dry, in an oppressive choke hold police state.

The #Eritrean regime has been at war with its people for the last 35 years; it has failed even to provide basic services such as clean drinking water and health services. It is heavily involved in the Sudan civil war by arming tribal militias there; it committed atrocities in Tigray fighting along with #Ethiopia's federal government (2020 - 2023); it is currently allied with its former victim, the #TPLF, against the federal government and failed to come to its rescue. Its dictator opened up Abiy's appetite for Red Sea access during their honeymoon. It should be the last one to advise other neighbouring countries on how to run their countries. Allying with the Eritrean regime is like allying with the devil.

For over three decades, Eritreans have endured arbitrary imprisonment, enforced disappearance, torture and indefinite national service, while Isaias Afwerki and his family live in comfort.
#Eritrea deserves justice, freedom and accountability, not cruelty, fear and repression.
This is so ridiculous and evil. This man has been in a cage longer than I've been alive.

Immensely saddened by return to senseless armed conflict in Ethiopia.
It is not too late for Ethiopians to stop fighting and to return to the negotiating table.
Pretoria was an inept peace and the genesis of the current mess.
External actors intent on undermining Ethiopia certainly stoking conflict indirectly.
Arab media and pundits are reporting the new fighting with glee and even talking about 'disintegration of the Ethiopian state.
I call on the US, UK, EU, UAE, Israel - the five actors with strong leverage on the government and the belligerents - to step up effort to bring the fighting to a stop.
Humanitarian situation in Tigray and northern Ethiopia in general was already grim and war will certainly aggravate situation.
Civilians must be protected from deliberate and direct harm and I hope we don't witness the horrors of the Tigray War ever again.

TPLF/FANO/OLF may think they'll march into Addis; they won't. PM Abiy may think he'll eliminate these groups militarily; he won't. National reconciliation will not come through a gun-only through goodwill and hard negotiations. It's time for Ethiopia to move past these troubles.
He's right, we need to take more personal responsibility. Don't fall victim by trying to navigate through a lawless state with armed murderous bandits.
