Grateful to see our latest article out in Marine Mammal Science. It raises some important questions about over-reliance on 'snapshot' surveys performed at basin-wide levels and highlights why more regular, nationwide studies could provide better estimates: doi.org/10.1111/mms.70140

Great to see more publications from Ekaterina Kalashnikova, Davis Orio and Aylin Akkaya coming out on the marine mammals of southern Tanzania. The multi-year study is discovering lots of cool new things about an important, understudied area for cetaceans:

Was great to be back at @UKIRSC_SMM as a participant rather than an organiser and great to see the new committee smashing it! 🐳 Really honoured to have been voted as the winner of the long-talk - look closely for some amazing photoshop work 😂📸✂️ #workofart @marinemammalogy

Fantastic showcasing of all the world leading work happening in Scotland at this years SMM 'Fishing for change' conference in Perth Australia
Congratulations to @AwberyTim from @SAMS for winning two prizes and taking home the original conference art to Scotland
It was great to present some of our team's work on minke whale entanglement at the MASTS ASM 🐳@mastscot

Hi Irene, I'm sure there will be other similar talks in the future 🙂 I'll let @whalesorg comment on whether it will be made available etc, but if not I did an older and abridged version of the talk for WDC and @strandings: youtube.com/watch?v=Yor44BoF… (01:53:00) 🐳

Thanks Angus, kind words as always, hope you're well.
Lovely evening talking about minke whales on the west coast as part of @whalesorg 's Winter Webinar Series last Wednesday.
Thanks everybody who came along and to all of the amazing Shorewatch volunteers for giving up their time to collect this valuable data! 🐳

I'd like to thank Liberty, Bally, Hans, Andy, and Joe for joining me on stage for a really insightful conversation. I hope this is the start of something larger. (7/8)
4) The best way for the trust to be rebuilt is for scientists to become more active within the fishing community. Many of the scientists working on fisheries issues have never been on a fishing boat and that needs to change. (6/8)
This comes from a history of seeing no change or having information given used against the community. (5/8)
3) These collaborations will only be effective if there is mutual trust between the fishing community and scientists. There is currently a mistrust of scientist by a large proportion of the fishing community. (4/8)
1) There are many challenges facing us if we want to approach making fishing sustainable in Scottish waters.
2) Many of these require collaborations between the fishing community, academia, NGOs and government sectors. (3/8)
We had three amazing video presentations and then a really interesting a provocative question and answer session that took us through some of the problems that we tend to steer clear of. The messages from our panelist representatives of the fishing industry were clear: (2/8)
