Who’s this gobshite? @alexstein99 The technical term is leprechaun but by all means go ahead and insult Irish Americans … it’s not like Republicans need them or anything. Oh and your President is in Ireland this weekend….what a gobshite!

Here are some of the songs I've been listening to this summer. It starts with a song Michelle and I love by Glen Hansard, a great musician who passed tragically this week. Our hearts go out to his family.
Just as recess begins? I’m not sure about this. In any other job, you’d expect at least a day’s notice. It’s too important a topic to play politics with.
NEW: Andy Burnham will make a major speech on the funding of social care tomorrow.
He will also invite Kemi Badenoch and Ed Davey to meet with him to kick off cross-party conversations on reform.
Burnham is expected to say:
“This comes down to a choice. We can carry on passing the problem to the next generation, or we can face it head on and work together to build a care system that gives people dignity, security and the support they deserve.”
He will expedite a commission chaired by Louise Casey which is already looking into reform of social care.
But we don’t expect tomorrow to bring any details on the model he wants to design - this looks to be a long period of consultation and negotiation before we arrive at concrete proposals.
Now don’t go upsetting any priests at funerals on yer way home! #Mayo4Sam
Anyone know what's happening outside PCH next to Westminster Bridge right now? @myldn - Lots of blue lights.

50 years on from the Summer of 1976, this is very likely to be a significant weather event. Some data models are predicting high’s of 38C midweek. June day and nighttime records are likely to be broken.

The Irish, Danish, Welsh and Italians must all be watching the football today wondering how on earth they aren't at the World Cup

Today is the 82nd anniversary of D-Day – the Allied landings in Normandy, which significantly hastened the countdown to the Nazis' collapse in World War II. It is one of the most important moments of unity among the defenders of life in human history, and it was less than a year until the peoples’ aspiration for freedom and the hope of peace prevailed in May 1945. It happened then. We are working to make it happen again today.
And although yesterday in Petersburg another cynical order to continue killing was issued for the army trying to destroy our freedom, history has seen this before. The Nazis also had their own hopes after D-Day. But freedom still wins. And even in the darkest circumstances, people find ways to come together to protect life.
I thank all those who are now helping to protect the values that prevailed in World War II. I thank everyone who is defending life. Glory to Ukraine!

"We want to use Henry’s heartbreaking story to make change for the better. We do not want his death to be used to create further division, hatred or tension.”
I am in awe of Henry Nowak's family.
Anyone callously ignoring their wishes deserves nothing but contempt.

There’s a fire on the horizon looking south/south east of London. Hopefully nothing serious in this weather. #heatwave
At this stage, I really don’t know what is defensible in protecting the coaching team around the Leinster team. Enough is enough. It’s time for change.
Rúaidhrí O’Connor: Leinster’s Jacques Nienaber experiment has failed and they look in need of a reboot from top to bottom

Genuinely baffled how a Labour MP can call for the PM to resign when there are at least two major wars going on and the gilt market is flashing red without having an alternative candidate or any alternative policy agenda. Fundamentally unserious.

Quite remarkable that you can mess up a landslide victory quite this badly and quite this quickly. Labour had huge potential to achieve whatever it wanted to. Instead they are going the way of the Conservatives - interminable civil war.
***BREAKING: Labour’s soft-left condemns Wes Streeting’s bid for No10 and vows to oust him from Downing Street if he becomes PM***
A senior soft-left source blasts Team Streeting for their public statements calling for a “swift” and “rapid” contest before Andy Burnham can get in.
The source says:
“If Wes thinks he can pull off some kind of stitch up to avoid a fair process that he will have no legitimacy even if he briefly ends up in office. There would be no support for the government in the Commons and we would challenge him at the first opportunity. He’d be lucky to outlast a lettuce.”
It means the Labour Party is in civil war tonight
Streeting appears to be trying to force a contest before Burnham is eligible
It is causing meltdown among soft-left and left MPs
Senior figures on the left of the party are threatening to oust Streeting from No10 if he succeeds in his bid to be PM
Seriously … all settle down now! This isn’t what the public want and said last week. They said do a better job. Don’t inflict this on us. Be grown ups and get on with the job but do it better!

Whatever complaints MPs have about Keir Starmer, they are now descending into the kind of headless chickenry that - whatever and whoever the outcome - will make the situation even worse for Labour. If there is a grand plan starring Catherine West and a few PPSs, then it doesn’t feel terribly thought through. A period of calm would do none of them any harm. The general election is a fair way off. The next legislative programme is about to be unveiled. There are better ways to reach such an important decision and better times too. You are MPs not commentators who exist to feed a frenzy.
