My grandmother came to this country as an infant. She built her life here. She eventually got her green card and became part of the fabric of America, like millions before and after her. That path is what Trump and his administration are now trying to slam shut. The Trump administration just announced that immigrants already living here who apply for a green card will need to leave the country first, with rare exceptions. That means scientists, doctors, teachers, founders, students, and families could be forced to abandon their lives in America and wait years abroad.
