College coaches are not reading your life story. They want position, grad year, exit velo, 60 time, GPA , and a 60 to 90 second video that loads instantly. Information. Fast. That's it.

When I was 17 I thought the goal was to play baseball as long as possible. I had it backwards. The real play is the network you build along the way.

Months of hot days and burning lungs during training… Then you show up on campus and get two chances to run your 60. Whatever you clock is your label for the year.

Make it easy on the coach. A YouTube link that loads instantly. Not a Hudl page he has to log into. Not a Drive folder he has to request access to. Every extra sentence, every extra click, is a reason to scroll past you.

They tell you conditioning won't improve your speed. My 60 dropped four tenths during summer conditioning. 80s, 100s, 60s, every minute on the minute. Three times a week, all summer. I wasn't jogging zone-two miles. I was running fast.

College baseball can punch you into an academic weight class you wouldn't otherwise reach. GPA on the bubble? Admissions stats not in your favor? BUT A spot on the roster gets you in the door. That admission is worth more than most players realize.

I went from a 7.0-7.1 sixty to a 6.7 in one summer. No secret drill. No $5k speed trainer. I finally started using my body the way it was supposed to move. The speed was already there. I just wasn't accessing it.

For most of us, pro baseball isn't the end game. Maybe some minor league ball. Maybe indy ball for a year or two. Eventually almost everyone needs to make money doing something else. The question is whether you used your playing days to build a network while you had the chance.

Your intro email tells a coach something before he ever watches your video. A tight, information-dense email signals you understand how this works. The kid sending the long emotional pitch is telling him he doesn't get it yet.

How did I get faster. I sprinted. A lot. Consistent, fast running, three days a week, for a whole summer. The work you put in (or lack there of) before anyone is watching shows up when it’s time to be evaluated

A higher-tier academic school means a higher-tier network. I've watched teammates land careers that had nothing to do with their batting average and everything to do with the alumni they met through the program.

The College Baseball Directory has every coach email, phone number, and Twitter handle in one document. 40 bucks. Hours of time back. That time goes into getting better.

You can't track what you don't have a system for. Could you tell me right now how many coaches you've contacted? Which ones responded? Which ones are on your follow-up list?

Here's the problem: if you're not the player the coach is looking for, that hour would have been better spent in the cage. Or the weight room. Or running.

Then they write the emails. Another 15-20 minutes per school. Over an hour of work to reach out to a handful of coaches.
