Our clinical and research developments remain close to people with rare movement disorders. Yesterday, we met the community with familial brain calcification in the webinar organised by @FahrBeyond. Please watch the webinar and reach out if you are keen on hearing more on the CALCIFADE trial, which is actively recruiting participants in the UK. @QS_RareMD @kailashbhatia @amitbatla @MDC_IoN_UCL @UCLIoN_DCMN
Yesterday's webinar with @FraMagrinelli & Dr Balck was really informative. An update on the CALCIFADE study, news about clinical network development, participation opportunities,& insight into the latest research on the genotype-phenotype correlation. See youtube.com/playlist?list=PL…

Lets hear more talk about medical professionalism and the necessary required qualities of integrity, respect, honesty, compassion and courage not the surrogate rule books, scoring systems and customer friendliness

Brazil that Never Was is the one I feel closest too.
Some of my July reads... three wonderful books by one of my greatest movement disorders heroes, @ajlees Although "Mentored by a Madman" may be Professor Lees’ best-known work, it was "Brazil That Never Was" that I found myself connecting with most! And "Brainspotting" is simply a no-brainer for any fellow student and neuronerd! 😊🧠 Three very different books; and a very good July of reading! 📚🧠 #JulyReading #Neurology #MovementDisorders

Delighted to represent @AANmember at the 12th @EANeurology Congress with key focus on strengthening AAN’s global relationships & advancing shared work in brain health. Enjoyed meeting our international members & EAN leadership as we’re building the future of #BrainHealthForAll 💚
Did you know that a quarter of the AAN’s 44,000 members are international? AAN President @NataliaRostMD is attending the congress of @eaneurology to take in scientific sessions, meet with EAN leadership, and to visit with AAN members also attending. #EAN2026 #GlobalNeurology

Is shopping bag tremor a thing? Spoiler alert: yes it is a rare task-specific condition that can emerge when carrying groceries. Shopping bag tremor is a form of task specific tremor that appears when a weighted object like a bag is carried and it may reflect abnormal muscle activation during sustained posture. Check out this video from Kishav and colleagues that just dropped in Movement Disorders Clinical Practice. Key Points: - Shopping bag tremor emerges during weight bearing and sustained grip rather than at rest. - The pattern frequently overlaps w/ dystonic tremor and may differ from classical essential tremor. - Careful observation during real world tasks can improve diagnosis and selection of treatment. My take: I pay closer attention to task specific tremors then I did earlier in my career. Watching how folks carry a weighted bag can actually reveal brain circuitry problems we may miss in the exam room. Subtle clues matter and they can change management. Occupational and physical therapists are frequently the first to recognize the weight based changes. Here are 5 points that resonated w/ me: 1- Real world tasks can unmask tremor patterns not seen at rest. 2- Dystonia may hide in plain sight during everyday activities. 3- Weight and posture can amplify abnormal motor network signaling. 4- Accurate phenotyping aides health care providers to choose better therapies. 5- Listening to what bothers folks most can guide 'potentially smarter care decisions.' movementdisorders.onlinelibr… @ParkinsonDotOrg @FixelInstitute @movedisorder @MDCP_Journal @tremorjournal

Beyond saddened to learn of the passing of Prof. Hallett He was a tremendous inspiration, an exemplary scientist, kind, open, and humble in every interaction I had with him. The field has lost a great one. With a heavy heart and deepest condolences to his family, colleagues, and the Movement Disorders community at large
One of the most interesting presentations here at @EANeurology from Prof. Mark Hallett on functional neurologic disorders and physiology of agency and will #EAN23 #NeuroTwitter #Movementdisorders #Neurology

While freezing of gait (FOG) is the most widely recognized manifestation within the freezing spectrum, other forms, such as freezing of the upper limb and freezing of speech, are increasingly acknowledged.
