While Arcturus shines as the brightest star high in the east these evenings. Spica shines lower right of it — by about three fists at arm's length. To the right of Spica by half that distance, look for the distinctive four-star constellation of Corvus, the springtime Crow.

Just got out of jail after Columbia called NYPD to mass arrest 100+ students. I have been suspended and evicted from housing by Barnard. This has only strengthened my commitment to the movement for Palestinian liberation and I promise to continue fighting for divestment.

A team led by Prof. Jackie Faherty examined a cold brown dwarf and discovered that it was emitting methane, something that’s never been seen before on a brown dwarf gc.cuny.edu/news/astronomers… @jfaherty @amnh @cunygc_astro @rociokiman @EGonzales788

ALT An artist concept image portrays the brown dwarf W1935, which is located 47 light-years from Earth. Astronomers using NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope found methane coming from W1935. This is an unexpected discovery because there is no obvious source of energy to heat the brown dwarf’s upper atmosphere and make the methane glow. The team speculates that the methane emission may be due to processes generating aurorae, shown here in red. Credit: NASA, ESA, CSA, Leah Hustak (Space Telescope Science Institute)

Someone please explain to me how #nsfgrfp reviews work?? I got nothing but stellar reviews but then didn’t even get an honorable mention? Academia is so rough sometimes, I spent the whole week anxious about the horrible reason I didn’t get anything, just to get stellar reviews :(

The @NSF announced it'll provide $1.6 billion of federal funds to one of the US Extremely Large Telescope projects, either the Giant Magellan Telescope or Thirty Meter Telescope. After decades of protecting Mauna Kea from TMT, this is a critical moment that will shape its future.
