This time in 2021 I collected my first artwork on-chain, a photograph by Rodrigo Valenzuela and a unique print thanks to @AssemblyCurated . 4 years later I finally met Rodrigo in person, a fantastic artist who has multiple shows this month -- a solo show at Marshall Gallery in LA and group shows with Sean Kelly in LA, and Asya Geisberg Gallery in NY.

Staying afloat as a non-profit arts organization today is becoming increasingly difficult, especially as funding for the arts is being lost left and right. This makes it especially important to take stock of the orgs that you know are doing important work to uplift artists and finding ways to support them directly—engaging in programming, becoming a member, and making a financial contribution.
For those active in the web3 space, I want to highlight two organizations that I know are deserving of support because I've had the pleasure of getting to know them more closely in different capacities—in the case of HCP, was honored to be asked to join the board of directors last year. Both of these orgs are registered on @endaomentdotorg and through this platform can accept cash or crypto to directly support their amazing programming—and you can get a tax receipt/write-off for your contributions (win, win!).
Both of these orgs are also in the midst of important new chapters and moves to new locations, which presents added financial challenges for them, so your support is truly more useful than ever. Whether you can make a large gift or small (dust from a trading wallet?), please join me in giving these important visual arts orgs a little love today... 🤍

✨ PHOTOGRAPHY ✨
Assembly Curated launched as the first curated fine art photography NFT platform in 2021. Since then we have worked to help guide artists in Web3 and provide an image-forward platform for launching and contextualizing their work online → nft.assembly.art
Over the past few years, we have had the pleasure of collaborating with esteemed artists Rodrigo Valenzuela, Alejandro Cartagena, Misha de Ridder, Penelope Umbrico, Cristina Velásquez, Hannah Whitaker, Alec Soth, Barry Stone, Daniel Gordon, Barbara Bosworth, For Freedoms, Carolyn Drake, Doug DuBois, Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs, among others. We have supported many of these artists in presenting their first NFT collections.
Along with working closely with artists to help navigate the introduction of their works as NFTs, Assembly has advised collectors on photography acquisitions and offered guidance on artworks beyond our own platform. We believe deeply in the broader art photography ecosystem. Furthermore, Assembly has slowly built a humble collection of our own.
Today, Assembly is pleased to share that we have significantly expanded The Assembly Collection. We see this as further strengthening our resolve to champion photography NFTs, and continue our commitment as stewards of artworks by some of the most important and innovative artists working at the intersection of photography and blockchain technology.
This expands upon and further underscores our vision for photography to grow as a central and essential medium within the art NFT space and art world at large. As the adoption and appreciation of digital assets grows, including natively digital art forms, we see interest in photographic works as collectible art, historical, and cultural artifacts to become increasingly more meaningful, sought-after, and valuable.
The Assembly Collection now consists of 150+ fine art photography NFTs, as acquired from 2021 to the present. The collection features works by a diverse range of established and emerging artists spanning the globe, including Guy Bourdin, Gregory Crewdson, Alejandro Cartagena, Reuben Wu, Julie Blackmon, Pelle Cass, Daniel Gordon, Summer Wagner, Ben Zank, Alec Soth, Bruce Gilden, Robin Friend, Amy Woodward, Cristina de Middel, Mona Kuhn, Richard Renaldi, Amy Elkins, Simon Roberts, Alec Soth, Akosua Viktoria Adu-Sanyah, Poulomi Basu, Amy Elkins, Misha de Ridder, Diana Sinclair, Michael Christopher Brown, and many more.

Composed of found images of Japanese culture from the late 1980s and 1990s along with artist Fumi Ishino’s own photographs, Index of Fillers is a recreation of the artist’s elusive memory of growing up during this era in Japan. Referencing the traditional format of Japanese comic strips, each image panel contains its own nostalgic narrative—from a cartoon Clearasil commercial to a video game rendering of a neighborhood to the interior of a love hotel. With a machine-embroidered felt cover housed inside a woven pencil case, each handmade book is unique and also includes a CD with a video piece made in Ishino’s childhood room.

Fumi Ishino is an artist based in Los Angeles and Tokyo whose work explores issues of meaning, cultural interpretation, and the constructed space primarily through photography and installation. He holds an MFA from Yale University where he was awarded the Toby Devan Lewis Fellowship. Other awards include the Japan Photo Award (2015) and the Honorable Mention Award from New Cosmos Photography (2015). His work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions including Fraenkel Gallery, the FLAG Art Foundation, and Houston Center for Photography, and has been featured in publications including Aperture Magazine, Gulf Coast: A Journal of Literature and Fine Arts, and AnOther. His books include rowing a tetrapod (MACK, 2017), Tinted Lines (torch press, 2021), and Index of Fillers (Assembly, 2021).

Assembly artist #PoulomiBasu was commissioned by The Olympic Museum to make new photographic artworks of Indian athletes, working closely with school children in the state of Odisha. In the spirit of her broader practice, Basu focused on young girls, who often face gender barriers.
The works were showcased in conjunction with the Paris @Olympics at Maison De L’Amerique Latine, with thanks to Fondation De Coubertin. The original artworks have been accessioned into the @olympicmuseum collection.
