In 1960, David Latimer planted a spiderwort sprout inside of a large glass jar, added a quarter pint of water, and then sealed it shut.
He opened the bottle for the first time only 12 years later, in 1972, to add some water and then sealed it for good.
The self-contained ecosystem flourished for more than 60 years as a perfectly balanced garden and self-sufficient ecosystem.
The bacteria in the compost ate the dead plants and broke down the oxygen released, turning it into carbon dioxide, essentially forming a microcosm of Earth.

Antonio Inoki kicking Muhammad Ali in the back of his leg (which he did a total 107 times) during their fight at the Nippon Budokan in Japan. (1976)
Billed as "The War of the Worlds," the June 26, 1976, bout between heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali and Japanese professional wrestler Antonio Inoki was one of the earliest and most influential mixed rules contests. Held at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan, the event drew an estimated 1.4 billion television viewers across more than 30 countries and generated a live gate exceeding $6 million, a record for Japan at the time.
The match was heavily restricted by last minute rule changes that prohibited Inoki from using most wrestling techniques unless one knee was on the canvas. In response, Inoki spent much of the 15 round fight on his back, repeatedly kicking Ali's legs. Historians estimate he landed more than 100 low kicks, causing severe bruising, blood clots, and an infection that hospitalized Ali for several days. The contest ended in a controversial draw after 15 rounds.
Although widely criticized at the time, the bout became one of the foundational events in the evolution of modern mixed martial arts, demonstrating the challenges and possibilities of pitting specialists from different combat sports against one another.
A young Masakatsu Funaki and Minoru Suzuki, who later founded the pioneering MMA organization Pancrase in 1993, cited the Ali Inoki fight as one of the events that inspired them to develop a legitimate hybrid combat sport.

Worth adding how far this actually went:
in August 2025, Rebecca was named one of TIME's first-ever "Girls of the Year," honoring young innovators worldwide, and Thales even had her turned into a LEGO minifigure as part of TIME's "She Built That" campaign to get more girls into engineering.
The impact kept scaling too, Thales ended up funding 150 of these blankets in total, donated across six different homeless charities in Glasgow, not just a handful of prototypes.
A twelve-year-old's sketch from a school engineering club is now warming real people through real Scottish winters, at real scale.

At just 12 years old, she invented a solar-powered blanket to provide warmth for homeless individuals and potentially save lives.
Twelve-year-old Rebecca Young of Glasgow, Scotland, designed a solar-powered heated blanket to help protect people experiencing homelessness from harsh winter conditions. Moved by the sight of individuals sleeping outdoors in freezing temperatures, the Kelvinside Academy student came up with the idea for a “Portable Heated Blanket.” Her concept beat more than 70,000 entries to win the UK Primary Engineer competition, prompting engineering company Thales UK to help transform her idea into working prototypes.
The blanket is made from waterproof, flame-retardant thermal material and folds into a lightweight backpack for easy transport. Flexible solar panels collect energy during the day, storing it in a compact battery that can provide up to eight hours of heat after dark. A temperature-sensitive control system automatically regulates the heating elements to conserve power. Following the prototype’s success, production expanded so the blankets could be distributed through homeless charities and shelters across Glasgow.

When Roy Keane returned to Cork in April 2025, a story emerged that few would have expected.
A 78-year-old man named Pat O'Sullivan was in Mercy Hospital living with dementia. His son, Rob, had been trying to get a message from Pat's lifelong hero, so he contacted Cork's RedFM in the hope they could arrange a simple video.
What happened next was something no one saw coming.
Keane didn't record a message.
He turned up in person.
Rob later recalled Keane walking into the hospital room, shaking his father's hand and chatting with him as though it was the most natural thing in the world.
Keane spent time with Pat, making his day, while the family were left amazed that he'd gone out of his way to visit rather than send a quick clip.
That's the part people remember.
Roy Keane's reputation has always been built on his tough, uncompromising personality, but moments like this reveal another side of him. His greatest acts of kindness are often the ones carried out quietly, with no cameras and no expectation of recognition.

Gary Economics has just ruined its credibility and proven that it clearly knows very little about economics.
The absolute tax legend @DanNeidle destroyed Gary in his own documentary.
The very documentary just a compilation of Gary being proven wrong time and time again about his "solution" to economic inequality.
Let me know if you have watched it.
The Dan Neidle debate has gotta be one of the best moments in the show!!

Narinder Kaur said people like her wouldn’t be welcome at the Unite The Kingdom rally.
Then I actually went there.
I interviewed Black British women, Indians, immigrants, a Muslim and even an ex-Islamist supporting the rally and saying it wasn’t what the internet described.
