It is a great historical injustice that you can't burn down the buildings of revolutionaries who've never built any.

"Conservatism starts from a sentiment that all mature people can readily share: the sentiment that good things are easily destroyed, but not easily created. This is especially true of the good things that come to us as collective assets: peace, freedom, law, civility, public spirit, the security of property, and family life, in all of which we depend on the cooperation of others while having no means singlehandedly to obtain it. In respect of such things, the work of destruction is quick, easy, and exhilarating; the work of creation slow, laborious, and dull." How to Be a Conservative

These letters further confirm that [Harold] Bloom, a guardian of our Western literary heritage, was one of the most important minds of the past half century. We shall not look upon his like again. - Oliver Spivey on THE MAN WHO READ EVERYTHING @yalepress

Happy 85th Birthday, Paul Simon!
I think this is the best of his post-S&G songs.
At about the same time as this clip, my bride was singing a gorgeous solo for this song with Yale's first women's a capella group, @NewBlueofYale .

Whatever you feel about their respective politics, the decline in quality from William F. Buckley to, say, Tucker Carlson—just as interviewers!—is bottomlessly depressing.

The Bookman could use your support this "Kirktober." We are a conservative book review that was founded by Russell Kirk in 1960. Last year, we reached over 90,000 readers. We don't have ads, paywalls, or subscriptions, so we rely on donors for support: zeffy.com/en-US/donation-for…

We believe that the West can awaken from its long slumber – and rekindle the fire that was first lit in ancient Greece millennia ago.

.@SecRubio: "It has become fashionable today to believe that enlightened foreign policy means prioritizing the global community over one's own people. Here too, we have much to learn from the men of ancient Greece — because they knew that there was nothing selfish or wrong about loyalty to your nation, nor anything selfish or wrong about fighting to defend its interests above all else."

You cannot read authors like Herman Melville or Edgar Allen Poe without facing the stark reality that the English language has grossly deteriorated. Further, that this deterioration of the English language is accelerating toward Neanderthal like speech and diction is everywhere demonstrable. Let us fight back against the death of our beautiful language. Let us apply the balms of careful thought and purposeful writing, and let us call our neighbors to join us in loving and cherishing the written and spoken word.

Usually the best response to people like this is to ignore them. But my father, Shelby Steele, who grew up under segregation in Chicago, and I have dealt with this behavior for decades, and this video gives you an eye-opening example of what it's been like.
This woman is furious that a community group in the leafy north suburbs of Chicago, New Trier Neighbors (@NTNeighbors), is screening my new documentary, "White Guilt," at New Trier High School on November 5.
In the video, she blasts @NTNeighbors for hosting Charlie Kirk (they actually did not but probably wish they could have) and calls Kirk one of "those disgusting white boys, racist, misogynistic white boys," and smiles as she recounts how she found out he was shot. She then attacks me, my racial identity, and falsely accuses me of platforming Nick Fuentes. She calls my film a "stupid movie that is full of Islamophobia" and "a continuation of the great replacement theory." Then she says she feels "really bad for the workers of color who have to clean up that vile auditorium" after we leave. The kicker is the end of the video when she claims that reading Ibram X. Kendi gave her wisdom and authority.
She hasn't seen the film. But truth is not her objective here. Her only desire is to brand me and the film as racist so her neighbors fall in line. She is already trying to drum up support for protests to intimidate people. That's white guilt intimidation at work. We owe nobody an explanation. The film will be shown as is and we invite all, including this woman, to see the film for themselves.
