Snow is an important part of farming in many cold regions.
For crops like winter wheat, snow cover helps protect roots from freezing temperatures. As it melts, it also releases water gradually into the soil, supporting crop growth.
But warmer winters and reduced snowfall are increasing the risk of snow drought, where there is not enough snow to provide this protection and water supply.
A study published in Nature Food found that winter wheat yield sensitivity to snow drought is increasing across the Northern Hemisphere. The study also notes that snow drought has shifted from a localized risk to a more widespread challenge for agriculture.
This is another reminder that soil health and water security are deeply connected. Building farming systems that protect soil moisture, improve resilience, and adapt to changing climate patterns will be critical for future food security.

Placing land under green shade is imperative to bring down surface temperature. There is simply no other way to cool the earth. Every square foot of green cover will contribute to regulating temperature extremes. Time to prioritize & optimize our efforts in this direction. Tree-based agriculture is the way forward. -Sg

Ash
Before my Body and My Bones
Turn into nascent Ash
let the Power and Beauty
of My Being touch this World.
Let my Breath bring
the fragrance of my Being to you
and The glory of my Lord of No-thing.
The profoundness of Nothing, cannot be
missed for the flakiness of Material
something that engages and distracts
May the Distractions not be forever.
I play in Time, being beyond Time.
This game has no substance
As all substance is Myth.
Our lives should be of strength and impact.
Our legacy is Only Ash

As India celebrates its 79th year of independence, the vibrancy in the air is undeniable, and the optimism and growing self-assurance are palpable. The time has come not merely to liberalize, but liberate. What we now need is a burst of free enterprise – bold, confident and adventurous. It is time to liberate education, industry, technology and infrastructure from the clutches of government control, so individual initiative can flourish, and the spirit of human ingenuity can shatter every glass ceiling – imposed and imaginary. If the soul of this Nation is to blossom, we must allow Indians to truly take charge of their country's destiny. Let us make it happen. -Sg #IndependenceDay2025

Our focus must shift from short-term water management to establishing long-term water security. For this, we need policy-based initiatives to Save Soil. In scale and efficiency of storing water and replenishing groundwater, healthy soil has no parallel. Bharat has the opportunity to present a demonstrable model to the tropical world that limited land and high population density are not a hindrance to becoming water abundant when our soil is rich and fertile. Save Soil = Save Water. Let’s make it happen. -Sg @cpsavesoil

Your Post Has More Power Than You Think
Funny how we can make cat videos go viral in minutes, but soil degradation remains underreported. Every second we spend scrolling, we lose an acre of soil to degradation. The United Nations warns we may have only 60 years of harvests left - that's about 21,900 days of posts, shares, and tweets.
The good news? The same tech that keep us connected can fuel real change. Together, we can make soil conservation more than just a trending topic - we can make it an impactful global movement.

One of the fundamental symbolisms in Yoga is what is traditionally known as a saligram – a spiral expanding outward from the center. This represents the ever-expanding cosmos. We realized that the most effective way to exist in this world is to be like the cosmos, never setting a boundary, as the nature of the human being is such that it cannot settle for boundaries. Human life is of endless expansion as we are the microcosm of the cosmos. –Sg

It is disheartening to observe disruptions in the Indian Parliament, particularly when we aspire to be a beacon of democracy for the world. The wealth creators and job providers of India should not become subject of political rhetoric.. If there are discrepancies, that can be handled within the framework of law, but should not become political football. Most important that Indian businesses must thrive. It’s the only way Bharat will become Bhavya Bharat. -Sg #ParliamentWinterSession

Bharat, a Land with several millennia of agricultural tradition has always known how to keep the soil rich and yielding. Farm animals, trees and crop rotation practices were intrinsic to the agricultural landscape. Though mechanization & fertilizer use are now unavoidable to feed our population, we must urgently revive traditional complementary agricultural practices that can nourish the soil. The farmers of Bharat know what to do. All of us - citizens, government and industry - must incentivize and support our farmers to #SaveSoil. Let’s make it happen. -Sg
30% of India's soil is degraded—a silent crisis that risks food security, farmer livelihoods, and climate resilience. 🌱
Soil degradation does not just affect crops; it threatens water cycles, biodiversity, and the foundation of life itself.
