I have just informed my colleagues that I will step down as @ECB President on 7 February 2027.
It has been a source of great pride to serve this institution.
I thank all of those who have supported me on this journey over the past seven years.

The groundbreaking of the Lamu Refinery serves as a reminder that moments of this kind mark a step towards enhancing Africa's industrial capacity, creating opportunities, and establishing the foundations for greater economic and industrial sovereignty throughout East Africa.
You, the industrial captains, investors, and entrepreneurs throughout the continent, must invest in Africa, have faith in our potential, and construct the transformative projects which will determine our common continental future.
The future of Africa is something that we shall have to build together.

The first time we heard about a Dangote led East African Refinery, the preferred location was Tanga in Tanzania.
I asked Aliko Dangote how it ended up switching from Tanga to Lamu.
Dangote says:
· Tanga as a choice location was informed by the existence of the 1,443 kms East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project from Hoima in Uganda to the Port of Tanga
· Eventually, other factors came into play like availability of water & its depth
· Until January 2026, he actually didn't know of a place called Lamu, he thought Mombasa was the next choice

I asked Aliko Dangote about the funding architecture for the East Africa Refinery:
· Is the plan still a 70:30 debt-to-equity split?
· There have been expressions of interest for co-investing, including from Kenya's National Infrastructure Fund. How much has been crowded in so far?
Dangote says:
· The governments of Kenya, Uganda & Rwanda have made solid commitments to co-invest
· As of now, the 30.0% equity interest is "almost done". The 30.0%, if anything, is "too small" as a portion for equity
· The plan is to have the East Africa Refinery listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange post-stabilisation
· He says East African economies producing oil will receive priority offtake as far as sourcing crude is concerned. Capacity will then be augmented from other sources like the UAE

Yoweri Museveni: I’m very happy to be alive to see the betrayal of Africa, which has been going on for the last 70 years, coming to an end. Africa has been betrayed by leaders who refuse to study to know what it requires to develop a country.

If lousy journalism that lacks neutral language and ethos doesn't ring alarm bells in your head, then you're manufucturing consent for the broader dehumanization of the global south. FYI, Europe is bigger than London.
It baffles me to see Kenyans including journalists bashing this headline out of emotions not reason yet they were taught news judgement principles like prominence.
Africa is bigger than Nairobi and it takes prominence just like South Africa's World Cup in 2010.
