We have been opposed to the MSG Sphere since its inception.
Newham Labour Cllrs:
🗳️Unanimously rejected the planning approval in July 2019
🗳️Were elected on a manifesto in 2022 which opposed MSG Sphere
It's easy to grandstand and take credit for other people's hard work
As Mayor of Newham, I've consistently expressed concerns about the MSG Sphere and its adverse impact on our residents.
I've written to @michaelgove asking that he call in the application for his determination - in line with the Article 31 Direction recently issued to the LLDC.

Tell that to the Tories who gave billions of taxpayer money to their mates during the pandemic and whose MPs fail to pay millions in tax. I imagine the old name has to be referenced for a while as not everyone will be aware that it has changed.

“Everyone wants some very basic things:
You want: A house you can raise a family in, a health service to look after you when you’re sick, you want education for your kids and to be able to retire in dignity”.
If this makes me ‘hard left’ then so be it.

@redbridgelabour @RedbridgeLive @IlfordSouthCLP @IlfordCitizens @IlfordRecorder @SamTarry What a brave thing to do for @rokhsanafiaz in Newham ! I wonder if this could work for a more democratic way to run councils everywhere? Constructive criticisms welcome 👍

Great video @ForNewham - also voting 4 change to committee governance where ALL our councillors have a say in council decision-making not just the chosen few.
Our opportunity- in Sheffield and Newham - to restore a bit of democracy to the way our council works! #sheffref21

In a democracy, Leaders must not be too powerful. They need (& will benefit from) close scrutiny, frequent questioning & challenge - from their own side & others. Elected Mayors don’t deliver that. They can be a recipe for corruption. The committee system’s the best alternative!
