RatingsAfrika says Tshwane has the worst finances of all metros. Water losses increased from 32% to 41% since 2024. In the same period life changing profits have been made by water tanker tenderpreneurs. Day 14 of no electricity in parts of the city. Meanwhile, at Tshwane House…

It was disappointing play. Offside along with 7, played the 9 without the ball and then bluffed a pitch tackle.

Tanker spending (hundreds of millions across terms) was a costly symptom of the long-failed Rooiwal plant, not the measure of progress. The 2019 Sodi JV tender was awarded under prior DA leadership, later cancelled after forensics found irregularities, with recovery pursued. The actual structural advance was the 2023 Magalies/DWS Klipdrift package plant partnership under Brink, which delivered safe water modules from late 2024 and reduced reliance on tankers. Own fleet acquisition only began recently under the current administration.

The long crisis stemmed from neglect of Rooiwal WWTW upgrades since ~2004 under ANC local administrations. DA mayors from 2016 prioritised budgets and started work, though tenders faced delays. The key breakthrough—the Magalies Water Klipdrift package plant bypassing pollution, funded by national DWS—was agreed in 2023 under DA mayor Cilliers Brink and Minister Mchunu. Construction began then; first modules delivered clean water from late 2024 under ActionSA mayor Nasiphi Moya. Most tangible progress thus spans the 2023-24 Brink term into the current one.

🚨 SO WHO IS NEXT? Now that the Defence Secretary has officially walked out over that massive five billion pound cut to our military, the Labour government is in complete freefall. 🤡 The Health Secretary quit. John Healey resigned. Ninety eight of his own MPs want him gone. Absolutely nobody wants to be tied to Keir Starmer's catastrophic regime anymore. They will magically find billions for luxury migrant hotels, but they completely refuse to fund the jets and ships our soldiers need to actually defend the country. 💷 Starmer is nothing but a political squatter barricaded inside Downing Street while his own cabinet disintegrates right in front of his eyes. The country is completely done with them. RT if you want this miserable government out so we can finally take our country back! 🇬🇧🔥

Thirty years into a stalled economy, South Africa has hit a dangerous "overbend" where national debt is no longer a tool for growth but a trap for survival. In a healthy system, borrowing builds infrastructure that pays for itself through new jobs and more taxpayers. Instead, we have fallen into a debt death spiral, borrowing billions just to keep the lights on and pay civil servant salaries. Because the economy isn't growing, tax revenue can't keep up with the interest, forcing the state to issue new bonds just to pay off the old ones. The scale of this collapse is clearest at Eskom, which is now technically insolvent with liabilities of R633.4 billion outweighing its assets. While the utility claims a R16 billion profit, this is a mask for a core that can't survive without a R254 billion taxpayer bailout. As businesses and homes switch to solar, Eskom’s revenue shrinks, leaving the remaining taxpayers to fund a bloated R43.2 billion wage bill and a "mad tariff" that would hit 300c/kWh if the state stopped the bailouts. We are no longer investing in the future; we are simply borrowing to manage the wreckage of the past. A government bond is a formal contract where the state borrows massive sums of money from commercial banks, pension funds, and external international lenders. When these institutions "buy" a bond, they are essentially giving the government a cash loan to fund the national budget. In return, the government gives them an IOU promising to pay back the full amount by a specific date, along with regular interest payments until then. For banks and pension funds, these bonds are usually seen as safe, reliable investments for your retirement savings. However, the system relies on the government’s ability to collect enough tax to pay that money back. If the state spends more than it earns and the economy stalls, these lenders start to worry. This is where the "death spiral" kicks in: if the lenders lose confidence, they demand higher interest rates to cover the risk, or the government is forced to borrow from one bank just to pay back another, effectively turning your pension fund into a life-support machine for a failing state. I apologies for "man" explaining this but it is important.xitter.cf/libthoughts/status/205…

The IRS sent me a bill for $1,247 while holding a $1,800 overpayment. Me: Hi, I'm calling about a notice. It says I owe $1,247 for 2023. Agent: Yes, $1,247.38. Me: Ok but I overpaid my 2024 taxes by $1,800 and applied it to 2025. Can't you just take what I owe out of that? Agent: That credit is irreversibly allocated to 2025. The balance is for 2023. Me: But the money is at the IRS. Agent: Different years. Me: But the same bank account. Agent: Different systems, sir. Me: Can't you just move it? Agent: You'd need to reverse the election on your 2024 return and apply it to 2023. Me: Can I do that? Agent: No. Me: Then why did you say that? Agent: Hypothetically speaking. You asked what you'd need to do. But technically, no you can't. Me: What th--- Can you at least break down what I owe? Agent: The original balance was $214. The rest is interest and penalties. Me: A thousand dollars in interest on $214? Agent: 8% per annum. Plus the failure to pay penalty. Me: So if you had just taken $214 from the $1,800 you're holding I would have saved over a thousand dollars. Agent: That math is correct. Me: Will my $1,800 earn interest at least? So it'd offset? Agent: It doesn't work like that. The IRS is not a bank. Me: Can I at least deduct that interest? Agent: No sir, that's non-deductible. Me: So then the interest I receive from the IRS? Not taxab--- Agent: Still taxable. Me: You're right. That's way worse than a bank. Agent: Is there anything else I can help you with today?

Today we launch the sixth leg of our Mashaba Legacy Tour. At a time in which our Tshwane mayor has inherited at R1.6 billion labour disaster from her predecessor, we are highlighting how Herman Mashaba revolutionised the relationship between local government and trade unions.

Tshwane's billing is now a full-blown mess. Look at this one I received via Twitter. A year ago, when Brink was in office, this electricity reading was taken, and the resident was billed. It then took 331 days for the next reading to be taken!! 🤯🤯😳😳😳

Insane how quickly decline sets it. Potholes all over Tshwane ad the city didn't manage bitumen stocks properly and isn't producing asphalt. Multiple day electricity and outages because of overtime mismanagement. Mayor is overseas. Deputy mayor is nowhere. Residents on their own.
