AI is a tool. You can use it to think for you. Or you can use it to learn and try things you wouldn't have attempted before.
I tell everyone at Figma: we hired you because you can think. We expect you to think. Don't outsource your thinking to AI.
Social media is not reality. Things are never as good or bad as they seem. Seeing things as they are and seeking truth are skills to develop.
Curiosity must be cultivated. Pulling the level of a slop/slot machine can be weirdly exhausting and depleting. It can be hard and even anxiety inducing to step away when things are moving so fast, but time away from the computer is a must right now.

As an indie dev, being personal is more important than ever to survive in a world where gazillions of AI-coded apps are being published every day. People see countless similar apps and have no idea what the differences are. But sharing your progress, thoughts, emotions, and stories can make it unique. People love to peek behind the scenes and learn something before trying your app. And try to keep communicating with your users *personally*. Be honest and transparent, so they can feel like you (not AI) are working hard for them. Don't be a meat proxy in user support.

Made a video about one of my favorite messaging apps @LettermeHQ built by my friend @AngelTheMaker. ❤️
He is super talented and currently looks for new opportunities, btw ;)

Early WIP screenshots of Amore.
I used this today to publish the first Amore update.
You drag and drop your macOS app binary into Amore. It will take care of bundling, signing, and uploading. You just type in your release notes and hit publish. No app review, no nonsense.
I wrote a more detailed blog post about my vision for a modern alternative to distributing apps outside the Mac App Store.
Feedback & advice welcome.

Vibe coded some stuff yesterday.
Happily typed in some detailed prompts and off Claude went, building exactly what I asked.
Came back to it later and realised I should be implementing it in a much different way, so all the code is redundant.
I feel like if I was manually coding, in the gradual process of building the feature bit by bit, I would have realised this earlier on and changed course.
Sure I can now ask Claude to refactor, but something about this feels hollow.
I know with AI it's probably faster overall (even with refactoring) but I feel like it's a net loss.
By manually coding I build up knowledge about my codebase, and spot problems as I go, adapt, and learn. I become a better problem solver.
With AI it's like driving 100mph for a while then hitting a wall, reversing, then driving another 100mph before hitting another wall.
I don't think that style of work really fits me as a person, I prefer slow / steady / learn / invest. Always have.

I've been there in a dark place where you get teased that finally you can make your idea come true, while it keeps slipping away because you don't know the fundamentals of the programming language AI suggested.
That's why I got obsessed with learning those fundamentals and 3 months later I'm still at it. Because even with all these advanced tools like Bolt at some point you have to dive into the code.
Maybe in the future there will be some new universal AI programming language we won't even need to look into but until then my advice to non tech people:
Try to build things but break through by understanding how all pieces work and master basic coding skills.
I'm actually focusing on just mastering a good understanding of JavaScript as this is still my struggle.

Futureland is now in the App Store.
The software combines simple habit tracking, with powerful measurement tools, and rich media support.
You can track all facets of your life, in one unified experience.
Try it out.

No one values a human for being able to do everything perfectly. They value humans who, despite the same struggles as others, are capable of doing extraordinary things.
Being perfect at something, like AI is, is boring as fuck.

No.
If it were the case, we would have AI systems that could teach themselves to drive a car in 20 hours of practice, like any 17 year-old.
But we still don't have fully autonomous, reliable self-driving, even though we (you) have millions of hours of *labeled* training data.

The problem I have is lack of precedent: people were sharing digital photos before Instagram. And people were making vlogs before TikTok.
What social activity were people doing before that AI makes easier or better?
