perspective it sucks to be in the middle of these shifts, but also “All things pass and nothing stays.” Heraclitus, as reported by Plato, Cratylus 402a (4th century BCE).
6,000 years of world history on a single timeline. Zoom in. You could spend 30 minutes exploring this.

been thinking about this for a while, the clear pattern seems to be - design oriented people are absolutely excited and think all this AI stuff is a net positive because it supercharges their ideas and are convinced their vision for an experience is just better than whats currently out there and machines just absolutely suck at this - techies feel like the end is nigh I think both are right maybe time to replace #lernToCode with #justLearnDesignBro its funny when non design sensitive people show their demos “ I made a design thing in 2 minutes” its like colorblind people saying they are masters of painting because they made marks on a canvas In the “just shipping” era they got away with it but the game is definitely changing now. Im not sure how long until “design is dead” but I think we have a few more years at least, in a pessimistic scenario, likely a lot more in an optimistic one
I'd call this a bubble in a bubble Tech people somehow still think normies are not spinning up personal software already They're not doing it in Claude Code in a terminal like tech people for sure But their AI chat app is already doing it for them without them even realizing they're building personal software, like generating PDF reports, full web app dashboards and even entire web apps That will keep getting more advanced and soon ChatGPT will just spin up a Photoshop clone (but ofc only if they need it, preferring to just do their photo edits for them) Everyone will mostly use personal ephemeral software inside AI chat apps I think Some software moats will remain like social media (community), ecommerce (think like Shopify and Stripe), etc but they will just be used by AI to build the personal software with So maybe that's the point here, become a tool agents use to solve their user's problems and charge agents for it (like many are saying)

/continue-rant (raw late night cant sleep iphone stream style) why I think design in general is different compared to code and why it’s harder to give models and people “taste” code has to work. thats about it. on or off. of course there are complexities but at the end of the day (almost) no user will go inspect the code and its intricacies. whereas design is seen and felt by all, and everyone has an opinion on it. good design is in the eye of the beholder, people rarely agree on what’s good There are people buying ferraris saying its hands down the best design while others think a prius is just a better one, for them a ferrari is just too loud, too obnixious. which one is “better”? we care about design on a different level, its about emotional bonding, signaling and lots of context and nuance all these bits are built into the product and all its details by people iterating thousands of times on it, massaging all of it together into a coherent package the process needs a lot of decisions and each decision point combined with “good taste” gets better, but with “bad taste”, or “generic” aka ai safe middle ground taste it goes downhill it can never become remarkable (past maybe a short term gimmick stage) most of us know design by committee is the worst type of design, ending up in the worst products ( if you’re not sure what I mean check this - “the bradley” youtu.be/aXQ2lO3ieBA ) probably most of us have seen people who just cant get out of their own way when making decisions as an extreme, some people hire others (for lots of $$$ ) then fight them every step of the way just to get what they initially wanted I don’t see how a nearly free, sycophantic LLM, that is drawn to averages will produce any decent work, especially in these kinds of hands. Im talking absolutes, but we all have some “bad client” traits, or just simple lack of knowledge unless we learn ourselves the LLMS only magnify these gaps. gaps aka we become the bottleneck. filling gaps, learning takes time, takes $, and still that only gets you to “ok work”, theres a lot more steps to “great work” and ofc people will be able to copy great work, just as you can buy didibao shoes that look like adidas, or even a perfect copy fake adidas, but enough people still buy adidas. for the brand, for the promise of getting something of quality, meaning all the coherent decisions that went into it, from material to sewing, to small design details. and maybe a face, someone they know and respect who says “yeppp this is good” and we didn’t even hit the meaning area yet (that I think will grow massively) , when you just want to give certain people money because you believe in them and want to contribute or help somehow, just help them do more of what they’re doing (which might be the purest ways of making a living) All this to say I dont see how the “bradley generators” will erase all this any time soon. And indies have a head start on all this because they are used to adapting and everyone is “indie”now but besides software I’m also building an eco farm and make furniture- so strong opinions loosely held lol

I’m seeing: - people saying charge less - but people having success charging $2000 / month - people saying don’t sell to devs - but people having success selling to devs - people saying software is dead - while building and maintaining several software products TLDR: 🤷🏻‍♂️

agree the bar will be raised for all but I think “pro developed” things will still have an edge. whatever normies do pros will do better and there will be a market for it. professions and descriptions might completely change and they might be unrecognizable but the difference will be palpable and people will pay for this edge rather than do all themselves. Current example (i’m a designer work with 4-5 clients at a time various industries shapes sizes, aprox 30 a year with a few long termers) I give all my clients full llm access and while they love to play around, most of them tap out from overwhelm in decision making within the first rounds. I think designers will have an edge here, we’re used to thinking through tonnes of decisions and managing teams of devs - which are now agents. Even former indie devs I see mentally tap out sometimes, the process used to be slower and more focused on grinding, and they would get their joy from that. now its like hyper decision making on 50 topics in parallel and you need to know when to stop, when not to overbuild, think strategically and deliver clean, coherent products. While people can learn that in theory, I don’t think that’s a skill everyone wants to develop. The ones who get absolute joy from this and do it 40+ hours a week (designers, maybe theres other groups too) will always have an edge compared to beginners who do this a few hours a week yes a few hours a week will be good enough, until when it’s not and everything is next level.

easier to call it luck than to dig deep and put in the hours, days, years. this might actually be the root of all mysticism. of course there are lucky people, but not relevant. put in the work, develop the skills
Being fit is a skill. Happiness is a skill. Getting rich is a skill. Stop calling it luck. Everything can be learned.

sweat daily. this is the way @dailysweatclub
Why your 3 hard workouts a week aren't enough: - Exercise and physical activity are not the same thing: walking, a walking treadmill at work, parking farther away - You are not reaching optimal health by training hard and sitting the other 23 and a half hours - Target 150-180 minutes a week of physical activity, or 30 minutes a day of low to moderate intensity - A nurse on her feet at 15,000 steps covers most of it. At a desk you have to add hours of walking on purpose @DrAndyGalpin on @hubermanlab

you should want to see how the sausage is made. then you'll understand why sometimes it's worth paying 3x for the "same thing".

everyone will not just do the same thing, everyone will not vibe code all the tools they pay for now... "A society which is insane and unsure of itself cannot allow that to happen. It says: “Everybody must join, everybody must work, everybody must belong.” And then freedom disappears because, as a matter of fact, the anxiety is if you say: “Well, you don't have to join. There are conditions under which you can go out. Then a lot of people would get together and say: “But what would happen if everybody quit?” I ask: “What would happen if everybody decided to take American Airlines flight 3 to New York tomorrow?" Well, they just wouldn't get on" -Alan Watts
HAS ANYONE ASKED THIS BEFORE? What will happen when everyone just vibecodes all the tools they pay for? software becoming abundant will drive demand to 0 for 90% of tools / apps / saas.

bonus - if you do things you really believe in you are happy when people copy often you actually want them to copy the easy things so they exist, and you can move on to harder challenges most avoid. onwards
This “don’t build in public”is such a weird take I started seeing more of Yes, now with AI it’s easier than ever for people to copy your work But they always will be one step behind. It’s not like you’re sitting still, not iterating after your v1 And what’s the alternative? Building in private? Not shipping your work to customers? Hiding? That’s coming from a position of weakness imho Good luck building a great product nobody gets to use and provide feedback on AI lets everyone move faster. You. But also your competitors. And straight up copycats Relatively, not much has changed. You need to continue to keep momentum, keep shipping, gather feedback, iterate on that, build a network of peers who got your back, where you can go for advice, etc I’d put my money on someone doing that, in public, over someone iterating forever in private never shipping because it’s not ready yet and too easy to copy

you don’t necessarily have to choose hm I always take my laptop with me and prompt between sets, and then it’s perfect for stretching and mobility drills the end this one’s great for hip flexors
yeah AI is nice, but have you tried going to the gym?

that’s the name what can I say - Indian running ducks - aka the obliterators of naked slugs slugs are the garden’s arch enemy cuz they eat seedlings, chew leaves etc my duckies take care of it & don’t harm anything in the process plus they are cute af and social - always follow you around, and lay eggs w better macros than chicken eggs training involves - hissing like a cat they know they need to gtfo - clicking tongue or whistling when they need to come - clap right they go left, clap left they go right - these are done, eat from hand in a calm way is ongoing

It took the Reconquista nearly eight hundred years to reclaim Spain. Don't give me that loser talk that it's "too late for Europe." The next generation coming up is unbelievably based. They've seen what suicidal empathy has wrought upon their nations. Never lose faith.
