This is bittersweet, as The Nib is closing in a month, but I wanted to wind it down before it would face drastic cuts and become a shadow of itself. In other words, before it became unworthy of something like an Eisner. This is a wonderful capstone to ten years of publishing.

And here’s the last page. I can’t even count the number of friends and collaborators I’ve met through @thenib, so thank you all for being a wonderful community for the past 10 years… and into the future!
Over the past 10 years, the nib has published over 6,000 comics and paid artists over $2 million. I’ll miss the publication when we close. But the nib’s impact will never be gone .

I made this little zine ode to @thenib this morning, after @MattBors shared with the world that we’ll cease publishing after August. This is sad, but mostly I feel grateful & proud to be a part of this publication that became a home for me.

In 2016, I was feeling really stuck as a writer and journalist. Me: “I’m just preaching to the choir! Does my work even matter?” I decided to devote myself to comics. My friend Matt Bors hired me as a freelance editor at The Nib. I really believe that both making and reading comics impacts people. I think a lot about the comics that have shaped my identity and worldview.

At the Nib, my colleague Eleri really taught me how to edit comics. I got to publish and get to know comics artists from around the world and support their world. Just this weekend I was in a queer shop in Canada and they had our book on the shelves!

Often as an artist and a journalist, I’ve felt alone. Like I have to blaze my own path in this hostile, capitalist country. I want to make honest, powerful work, not sell shit! At The Nib, I found a community of support. It’s a home for generous, smart, funny and also furious artists.
