Incredible to see a legendary Oscar-winning director back @makeinindia cinema and @malhotra_namit! Loved and highly recommend RRR and Dangal - huge respect to both visionaries. Now eagerly counting down to #Ramayana this November and #Varanasi next year! #itihasatotheworld
#Ramayana is a story every Indian storyteller grows up aspiring to tell. It's a joy to see @niteshtiwari22 and @malhotra_namit bring it to the screen on such a grand scale. Each actor brings these timeless characters to life with depth. Looking forward to 5th November. Best wishes to the entire team. youtu.be/ATXNE61Y4RU

Phase Lock grounds its examination of human & machine intelligence in the foundational principles of cybernetics, providing a timely counterpoint to the oversimplification of human-AI agency. Far from relying on alarmist tropes, the work delivers a rigorous, deeply thoughtful perspective
The human brain is approaching its ChatGPT moment. I spent 6 months writing Phase Lock: a manifesto on how brain computer interfaces can help align AI and preserve human agency. If you only ever read one thing from me, read this.

Today, we are launching a preview of our new model, Mistral Large 4 (ML4), aka le Chonk 🐈. ML4 is a 1T-parameter model with 49B active parameters, trained natively with multimodal capabilities. It is at the frontier of open models, and by far the strongest open-weight model from the US or Europe. The RL run behind this preview is still in flight and shows no sign of saturation -- we will release a final version before the end of the month along with the weights of the model. 🧵 1/n
Meet Mistral Large 4, aka Le Chonk. • 1T parameters, natively multimodal. 49B active. It is the best open weights model from US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks. • State-of-the-art on critical workloads, including cyber defense, manufacturing and finance and it surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding. • Forged in Europe end-to-end and is deployable from Europe via our own Mistral Cloud infrastructure. • Available to all via API today. Working with cybersecurity partners privately. Open weights release end of October.

Looks like @SebJohnsonUK fumbled with ‘fumble’. Reminds me this epic video from Bernard Tapie talking about the difference between an entrepreneur and a journalist facebook.com/share/r/1FZ1Z7Z…
Replying to @DadaJudith
100% agree, and maybe "fumble" was too harsh. This is truly phenomenal news and should be celebrated. It's amazing that France and Germany now both have solid LLM capabilities. UK needs to up its game asap

The next $100T to crack
Replying to @ngranati @fchollet
Around 75-85% of world GDP (roughly $95-105T of the current ~$125T total) involves major non-digitally-verifiable elements: physical processes, long-horizon judgment, interpersonal work, and open-ended strategy. Purely software-checkable domains like math or isolated coding form only a small slice.

2/ interestingly researchers found that the progression of human players was not post Alpha Go but post open source version of AI Go algorithm. Another reason to promote open source AI. xitter.cf/phokarlsson/status/174…

Ok, so this is interesting: it seems maybe the quality improved not after AlphaGo, but after the release of open source versions. Because they allowed players to look under the hood and understand the strategy. Just seeing the AI moves was not enough. escholarship.org/content/qt6…

🧵 1/ We used to call cybersecurity "anti-virus." It's time we bring that biological thinking back to AI. The biggest threat to AI safety isn't open source; it's the fragile monoculture created by regulatory capture.

For the last couple of years, the US narrative was that US had an unassailable lead in AI. Once one lab shows that it’s not true, a lot more will try, and more importantly succeed.
Big news: Kimi-K3 by @Kimi_Moonshot is now #1 in the Frontend Code Arena with 1679 pts, surpassing Claude Fable 5. This is a 17-place jump from Kimi-k2.6 (#18 -> #1). In Frontend, Kimi-K3 ranked #1 in 6 of 7 domains: Brand & Marketing, Reference-Based Design, Data & Analytics, Consumer Product, Simulations, and Content Creation Tools, landing #2 only in Gaming behind Fable 5. The full model weights will be released by July 27. Congrats to the @Kimi_Moonshot team on this major milestone!

I am more balanced on OSS vs frontier closed AI 1. I wouldn’t underestimate cyberphunk mindset of bulk of Anthropic and OpenAI users against your argument. 2. 4-6 months behind SOTA is within implementation cycle time of enterprise customers 3. Not every enterprise needs to solve cancer. So diminishing returns of SOTA vs OSS for enterprise. 4. Will proprietary nature of data play out differently then it has played in enterprise cloud.

Is AI model distillation protected under fair use? Echoing @bgurley's point, this excellent paper by Claudia Philipp (@uclaw_sf) makes a compelling case for why it would hold up in a US court. Great read on the legal mechanics: repository.uclawsf.edu/hasti…
This is what’s causing Anthropic to aggressively beg for govt protection (see below). Customers are finding cheaper alternatives. Keeping employees requires continuing ultra-rich secondaries ($$$) that are dependent on revenue growth. When you can’t win on the field go to DC.
