This is how we can evolve a Kotlin data class, so that it remains binary and source compatible.

Don't we need to handle destructuring as well to be 100% compatible ?

Since the new property is appended after the existing properties, the component1 and component2 function signatures remain unchanged, and thus destructuring compatibility is maintained.

Poko 0.14.0 is compiled with Kotlin 1.9.0 and has a small behavioral change: Namely, its annotation dependency is now added as compileOnly, to make Poko more invisible to consumers of Poko-using libraries. github.com/drewhamilton/Poko

Data classes can't do this! Most library authors shouldn't either, because mutable data bad, but sometimes performance outweighs safety.

FWIW, convincing our brand team to roll out themed app icons was surprisingly easy. We wrote a 1-pager explaining what they are and why they don't affect our brand. I can try sharing the doc publicly if it's useful, let us know! cc @hams
