My daughter wrote a fan letter to @jk_rowling, which will leave our tiny town in the middle of the US, get handed from person to person, cross the ocean, and be delivered at the proper address in England. All of this for $1.30. It's a miracle. It's a miracle.

A patronage program would spawn a load of terrible work, because it's not easy to tell what's good art and what's crap, but there are potential creations that we need that aren't being made because they just aren't marketable, we don't know we need them yet.

95% of the time, art improves when it comes in contact with a market: you have to polish, make something truly good, or the market doesn't care. But sometimes, the market misses amazing work because it doesn't look like anything familiar. It's this work that needs patronage.

I've used Wacom for a decade. After reports that the latest Wacom pen tablet eats pen nibs, I started looking for an alternative. Just got my #XenseLabs tablet, and I've gotta say it matches or beats Wacom in every category, and costs less. Wow.
