It saddens me to hear "a person should never be released back into society even if they have rehabilitated". Then why do we have a justice system if we want to just throw people away. I'll never believe this type of thinking to be right. To each their own but I believe in people

Every time I speak with family members of an incarcerated person I am struck by the milieu of poverty, abuse, mental illness & addiction that existed BEFORE the loved one's incarceration & how it's only compounded by the trauma of incarceration. No one heals, everyone suffers.

Evidently, we are sending people to prison & expecting them to fix themselves with absolutely no resources whatsoever. For those sentenced to 2-3 years in the last 2 years, will have spent that time locked up 23 hours a day yet will be expected to come out changed for the better.

Someone sent me this from Holman prison in south Alabama. The heat & humidity inside the prisons is relentless this time of year. No AC in living areas except for mental health & infirmaries. We don't need $4 billion in mega-prisons to fix this.

Just read that Finland requires that the courts consider the best interests of a child whose caregiver is being sentenced “in every stage of the process.” U.S. government guidelines do advise judges not to consider the best interests of children when sentencing a parent. 🤬🤬🤬

Leaving prisoners in boiling hot cells all day can be fatal, much the same way as leaving a dog in an over-heated car. Management must ensure their establishments keep decent temperatures, for all prisoners & staff's safety.
