When I talk about zero-click marketing, I often say you need to build algorithmic capital and spend it wisely. Here's what I mean... You don’t get reach on social media because you deserve it. You get it because you’ve earned it. - Every zero-click post (the kind with standalone value and no links) - Every carousel, every native video, every “ah-ha” moment you deliver → Those are algorithmic deposits. And through your better engagement and reach, you accrue algorithmic capital — trust with your audience and the platform. That's when you earn the right to make a withdrawal: 💸 “Subscribe to our newsletter.” 💸 “Book a demo today.” 💸 “Download the guide.” If you’re constantly linking out, asking for clicks, or begging for conversions... Your audience won't love it. And neither will the algorithm. In my latest for the SparkToro Blog, I unpack this concept and explain how to thrive in a zero-trust ecosystem.

One of the highlights of my trip to San Diego at #AhrefsEvolve: Hanging out with the awesome @randfish and the wonderful @everywhereist (thanks for the delicious dinner, can’t wait to see you again soon), seeing Rand speak about Zero click marketing going through so many insights and actionable advice to navigate marketing in a zero click era and … getting his and the amazing @amandanat new Zero Click marketing book as a gift at the event (no need to wait for longer to read it anymore!)… I have now an excellent read for my flight to LA and then back home! If you haven’t ordered it yet, check it out : zeroclickmarketing.co/book

"Don't make click your only mechanism of value." - @amandanat at her #microconf keynote youtube.com/watch?v=MBxhzARQ… #bars *this is such a great talk, and I'm only half-way through. This is a really great #gtm and what zero-click marketing means in today's new 'search' world.

If you can't justify spending money to promote your content, how did you justify spending time and effort to create it in the first place? ^ this is one of the driving questions of my marketing philosophy. So when I learned that @amandanat and @randfish spend $0 on advertising the content they produce for @sparktoro , I couldn't resist asking Amanda about it on the Ahrefs Podcast. It set off a really fun, friendly debate. 🙂 One that didn't end when the cameras stopped: Amanda later wrote a blog post with her counterargument at the SparkToro blog (which was very fair btw). Here's what else we discussed on the podcast: 🔸 How SparkToro still drives traffic to its blog 🔸 Amanda's "algorithmic capital" concept (and how to cash in on it) 🔸 Why your website matters more in the age of AI search 🔸 My LinkedIn data: posting frequency beats viral hits for follower growth 🔸 "Take your ideas on a tour": webinar it, podcast it, social it, speak about it 🔸 3 great posts or 5 mediocre ones? (we fought about this a little) 🔸 How SparkToro uses SparkToro to grow SparkToro Watch/Listen here 👇 youtu.be/klWZINduk3I P.S. If you're enjoying Ahrefs Podcast, don't forget to click "Like 👍" here and on YouTube (and subscribe to the channel if you're feeling extra generous).

Om was one of the first people in my adult life to show me that brilliance and kindness are not mutually exclusive. In the Gigaom days, when I was a junior journalist, he never made me feel less than; never made me feel like my opinion didn’t matter. When I became a marketer, he was nothing but supportive. I always knew Om was rooting for me. He was generous and thoughtful. A true gem. He will be so very, very missed.
It is with profound sadness that we share the news of Om Malik’s passing. It’s difficult to state the impact that @om had on all of our lives at True. Om was the first Founder we funded when we started True. In our Presidio office, Om discussed his idea for a new type of media company. That idea would later become GigaOm. Om was a brilliant Founder, an amazing teammate and Partner at True, a prolific writer, a gifted photographer, and a sage and valuable advisor to so many in the technology ecosystem. Om was brilliant, thoughtful, humorous, profoundly kind, and deeply curious. He was also relentless when he had an idea or story. Om was brave - he never shied away from sharing his views or pushing for the truth. We were very, very lucky to call Om our Partner and friend at True for these last many years. For today, we simply encourage you to take a moment to remember this beautiful soul and great thinker who was in our midst. He would ask us to slow down a bit. Om would want us to think deeper, express our love for one another a lot more. Above all else, Om wanted us all to retain our humanity and care for each other in our brilliant quest to rebuild the world. We love you Om. Team True om.co/2026/06/24/1966-2026/

68% of Google searches now end without a click... to *anywhere.* That finding comes from my co-author Rand Fishkin’s latest research, and yes, it’s a doozy. But before you spiral into "is SEO dead?" — don't. Because the click was never the point. It was just the thing we could measure. For years, we treated traffic like the scoreboard. More sessions meant the strategy was working. Less traffic meant something was broken. But if Google, AI Overviews, Amazon, social feeds, and AI tools are increasingly filtering, ranking, summarizing, and recommending before a person ever lands on your site, then the job changes. You don’t just need to "get the click." You need to become the brand people and machines look for by name. I wrote up what I’d actually do about it: • who's still winning Google's clicks, and why it's not just "better content" • why AI-referred visitors may be fewer but more valuable • why branded search, owned assets, and correlation dashboards matter more than traffic charts • the 3 bets I'd make that survive every algorithm update Clicks aren't coming back. But you can do marketing that still works when they don’t. sparktoro.com/blog/zero-clic…

Alright, alright... maybe I ought to come back to X because Patrick McKenzie livetweeted my keynote at MicroConf and I almost missed it — and I'm still fangirling.
Next up at MicroConf: Amanda Natividad (@amandanat ) on content-marketing in the post-SEO era. "A framework for founders who can't wait 12 months"

Search captures demand. Public evidence creates it. “Across 41 major desktop sites in the US in Q4 2025, Google accounted for 73.7% of searches.” Brilliant piece from ⁦@amandanat⁩ sparktoro.com/blog/if-search…

I was in London this week, visiting from California. In two different conversations I asked two friends who previously lived in various countries (most recently NY and CA specifically) — “What do you miss most about the US?” They said for as much as they love London, they miss Americans’ optimism.
