4000+ participants at the #IUFRO2024 World Forest Congress !
- Presented my research on UNESCO old-growth beech forests
- Coordinated a session on natural forest monitoring, organized by #IUFRO groups Beech Forests (coord. by me) + Old-Growth Forests (coord. by Bill Keeton) – at Stockholm, Sweden
How will naturally developing mature and #oldgrowth #forests contribute to #carbon accumulation and #climatechange?
Ecological theory, tree biology, forest demographics, active vs. passive restoration discussed on the first part of talks in our session at #IUFRO2024

Archaeology and genomics researchers combine for a snapshot of the plant community around Nimrud in (now) northern Iraq.
Researchers extract ancient DNA of 34 plants from a 2'900-year-old clay brick from a palace of a king of Assyria (ancient Mesopotamian civilization).
These findings can give us an idea of the plant biodiversity cultivated at the time.
