ON THIS DAY: The Boston Red Sox came back from down 3-0 to beat the New York Yankees in Game 7 of the ALCS 🙌 22 Years later, and it still feels surreal 🤩

Israel's Central Elections Committee voted Wednesday to disqualify Mansour Abbas' United Arab List slate from running in the election, as well as the Joint List, which consists of the parties Hadash, Ta'al and Balad. In its decisions, the committee claimed some members of the parties "reject Israel as a Jewish and democratic state." The decisions may be reversed by appeal to the High Court of Justice, which struck down similar rulings in previous election cycles | Michael Hauser Tov, Chen Maanit, Noa Shpigel and Jack Khoury 🔗: haaretz.com/israel-news/elec…

A lot of people will incorrectly diagnose the Covid conscious lesbian bar drama as a woke problem. True heads understand it as a Massachusetts crank problem. These local cranks exist as part of a sacred fabric of obstinate resistance bostonglobe.com/2026/09/17/m…

In my morning radio days I used to have a pair of “Shittin Shoes” I kept at work I would switch into so no one would know it was me in the stall.
There’s two types of people in the world. Those who poop at work and those who never poop at work.

The Post's new reader-submitted obit series is going weekly. The latest installment of What We Remember runs today, and includes a 2-year-old who loved to dress as Snow White and an Oregon river guide enthralled by "the glint of a fishing fly…on the surface of the Columbia."

David Sedaris thinks that if we just lived for the plot, we'd have material to write anything. He explains: "My friend asked me what I did in the afternoon. I said, 'I went to the post office.' He replied, 'Why would you do that? You don't even need to go to the post office. If you have something you want mailed, you have the hotel called FedEx and they come and pick it up.'" "I don't want to live like you. I want to go to the post office. And I went to the post office and it was remarkable. Or sometimes you go to the post office and the person is just grumpy and you can even get something out of that." "I wanna live. I wanna be out there. I don't wanna sit at home and order everything online, and use all the shortcuts."

The plot for ‘SPACEBALLS 2’ has been revealed: “Somehow, Dark Helmet has returned! 40 years after the events of the first Spaceballs, 50 years after the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, and 1 year after the events of The Devil Wears Prada 2, the galaxy is once again under threat. A threat so evil, so unstoppable, so completely lacking in any original ideas, that it has vowed to bring back the past… every last bit of it. With Lone Starr in hiding, Queen Vespa on the throne, and the Schwartz stretched thinner than a franchise releasing TV episodes theatrically, the only hope for the galaxy is Vespa’s undisciplined son, Prince Starburst, and a mysterious Palace advisor named Destiny. Together, they must find Lone Starr, Yogurt, and any other iconic legacy characters fans are demanding before they discover the hard way that, while some threats you can fight, the reboot is not one of them.”

In Germany, a talented 14-year-old earns his club money. In America, his parents pay the club $15,000 a year. That single inversion explains why "we will not" is the most accurate line ever written about US soccer. FIFA built a global system for this. Training compensation and solidarity payments send a cut of every transfer fee back to the clubs that developed the player, from age 12 onward. Develop one future pro and your academy gets paid for a decade. Barcelona's La Masia, Ajax, every Bundesliga academy runs on this logic. The kid is the asset. US Soccer refuses to enforce those rules. When Seattle's Crossfire Premier claimed its $60,000 share of DeAndre Yedlin's transfer to Tottenham, it got nothing. Claims on the Dempsey and Bradley transfers died partly because the federation couldn't even produce the youth training records. So American clubs earn zero dollars when a kid turns pro. They earn when a kid enrolls. Which makes the parent the customer, and the product is whatever keeps the parent writing checks: travel tournaments, hotel weekends, $500 showcase events, private training at $100 an hour. Elite pathways run $8,000 to $20,000 a year. A comparable academy spot in Italy costs about 120 euros. Follow the incentive one level deeper and it gets darker. A club dependent on fees can't cut its weakest paying players, so rosters optimize for retention over development. The scouting pool shrinks to families who can afford the cliff, which appears around age 11, exactly when development matters most. The country runs a talent filter sorted by household income instead of ability. Every four years someone proposes fixing this. The proposal always requires the people profiting from the $15,000 model to vote themselves out of business. They will not.
“And every four years when the World Cup comes around, we will say that we’d dominate if we had a stronger youth program.” “And will we develop a stronger youth program?” “We will not.”

parallel with the Knicks' extraordinary penchant for magically rallying, coming-up-from-behind to triumph at virtually the last minute was the weirdly fascinating drama of "Wemby" on the court distinctive not only by his height but the thinness of his body which appeared, beside his teammates, almost pre-pubescent, lacking maturity. no matter where you looked, there was always "Wemby" charging about anticipating an opening to shove, push someone with a solid adult body with a baby-faced look of insouciance: "Who? Me? I' m just a kid."
From @TheAthletic: Victor Wembanyama’s first NBA finals experience was tough and emotional. He left the court without shaking Knicks players’ hands after the Spurs lost. “It’s painful. But I’m not running away from that,” he said. nyti.ms/4xAgpiP
