I could not agree more:
“South Asia must expand people-to-people connectivity through academic exchanges, business collaboration, civil society engagement, journalism, cultural diplomacy, sports diplomacy and tourism. Easing visa restrictions for scholars, professionals and civil society actors could create a “soft window” for regional integration and rebuild trust”

CEO of @antaraintl Shannon Paz, shares how Antara is working to improve the health of women and children in some of India’s most remote and marginalized communities. Every year, over a million pregnant women and children are reached through programs that strengthen healthcare delivery, improve access to services, and ensure high-quality care. By partnering with government health systems, the organization is able to reach further and deeper, addressing barriers that prevent communities from receiving the care they deserve. This is the kind of impact that transforms lives, one mother, one child at a time.

It would be helfpul for @RepSuhas and his staff to look more closely at what is happening in Bangladesh and not simply repeat @hinduact talking points. The people of Bangladesh sacrificed greatly in July/August 2024 to regain their freedoms, and are about to take the next step towards restoring their democracy.
The interim government deserves credit for restoring stability after Hasina fled Bangladesh, including to an economy which had been thoroughly looted by her cronies. Over the past 18 months, the interim government has taken important steps towards ensuring accountability, implementing long overdue reforms, and organizing elections.
The facts do not substantiate the outlandish claims by elements of the former regime and their supporters regarding violence against minorities or rising extremism. The United States has worked closely with the interim government to advance the interests of both countries, including in expanding bilateral trade and investment.
Bangladesh is a complicated and important country. It serves neither U.S. nor Bangladeshi interests to look at it through a narrow partisan lens. I hope that Rep Subramayan takes the opportunity to engage with other voices who can provide a broader perspective on what is happening in Bangladesh.
Finally, I hope his schedule allows the Congressman and his colleagues to visit Bangladesh and see the reality for themselves.

I just returned from two weeks in Japan, and I have to be honest, it really opened my eyes to how far behind the U.S. is falling in so many basic ways.
Some things that stood out:
- In two weeks across some of Japan’s most densely populated cities, I saw only two visibly homeless people.
- I saw one person who appeared to be struggling with addiction.
- High-speed rail made affordable, clean, efficient transportation the norm, not a fantasy.
- I never once felt unsafe letting my kids walk freely beside me in public.
- Despite having far fewer public trash cans, Japan’s streets had a fraction of the litter.
- The country’s reduced income inequality was visible everywhere, from housing to public services.
I already know what some right-wing folks will say: “It’s because Japan has low immigration” or “It’s not run by Democrats.” But those are lazy excuses and distractions from the real issues.
The truth? We’ve normalized dysfunction in the U.S., and we make excuses for it instead of demanding better.

A doctor is arrested in London for protesting. While he is, he calmly describes how medical infrastructure is being systematically dismantled in Gaza, while healthcare workers (like him) lose their lives.
Really incredible clip. The best of British.

At the same time, after Gopalganj and Chittagong, it is important that the students party has the right to assembly with appropriate protection from violent attacks. Seems a responsible policy after recent attacks.
Leaked documents show Chief Adviser Yunus’s Govt is deploying 620+ police personnel for the National Citizen Party’s regime-backed political march in Khagrachhari on July 21.
This includes:
• 336 constables
• 77 armed constables
• 88 female constables
• 54 officers
• Detective Branch (DB)
• Special Branch (SB)
• Plainclothes agents
• Riot control police
• Traffic division
• Armed police battalions
• Police pickups, riot vans, and motorcycles
It's interesting that the Special Branch (SB) and Detective Branch (DB), which is normally reserved for National Security and Surveillance is also being deployed to babysit a political rally.
This is all being done at a time when there are:
• Open daylight murders
• Widespread extortion
• Rising Crimes
• Zero accountability in law enforcement
While the country tackles deteriorating law and order, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus is using state machinery to babysit a Political Party run their political campaigns.
Taxpayers’ money is protecting so called "national leaders" who can’t campaign without riot trucks, armed escorts, female constables, and DB surveillance.

I'm floored.
This is ONE stretch of ONE side of the street in deep red, small town Knoxville, TN today.
This is a city that Trump won in 2024 by 20+ points.
The scope of these protests are massive—American from both sides of the aisle are pissed.
There will be no kings.

If Elon Musk truly wants to understand what federal workers accomplished over the past week, he should get to know each department and agency, and learn about the jobs he's trying to cut.
Our public servants work hard to ensure that our national security is protected; that planes land safely; that forest fires do not spread to our homes; that Social Security checks arrive on time; that research for the breakthroughs needed to cure diseases like cancer and ALS continues; and much more.
Our public workforce deserves to be treated with dignity and respect for the unheralded jobs they perform. The absurd weekend email to justify their existence wasn’t it.

My god. Just came across this whilst reading the UN report, relating to a meeting held on 19 July: "Senior official testimony also indicated that in a meeting held the next day the Prime Minister herself told security force official to kill protestors to quell the protests and specifically demanded to "arrest the ringleaders of the protests, the troublemaker, kill them and hide their bodies."
