A powerful nor’easter could lash the East Coast this week — a rarity for September.
Only around 1 percent of nor’easters have historically occurred during September.
They are most common from November to April.

Canadian wildfire smoke continues to thicken over the area into tonight, likely lingering into the end of the week. Expect both near-surface air quality and visibility to worsen this afternoon. This satellite loop shows both smoke (gray/brown) and clouds (white) in the region.

Smell smoke this morning? Its coming from a wildfire outbreak in Ontario. While it should not impact air quality much today, smoke at the surface could increase Wednesday into Thursday, potentially reducing visibilities and air quality. High temperatures may also be limited.

We are anticipating multiple rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms this evening into Monday night that could lead to flash flooding. Never drive through flooded roadways. Heed all barricades and warnings. It only takes 6 inches of fast-moving water to sweep you off your feet.

103° has tied the highest temp ever recorded at WFO Mount Holly, going back to 1993. The previous highest temp at our office was 103° back on July 7, 2010.
This corrects a previous post.

In New York City, a low temperature of 84 degrees is forecast on Thursday night.
That would match the *average high temperature* this time of the year and be the equal-warmest night in the city in 158 years of record keeping.

☀️ Today in Utqiagvik (the northernmost city in the United States), the sun rose above the horizon at 2:57 AM and won’t set again for 84 straight days or until August 2nd! Here's a look at a timelapse showing the sunset and sunrise this morning. #akwx

March 2026 will probably become the warmest March on record for the United States and the *warmest month compared to average* overall, pending final data.
It was a remarkable 7 degrees above-average across the country as a whole.

As of 2:57 pm MST Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport has reached 100°. This is not only the first 100° day of 2026, but it is also the earliest occurrence of 100° in Phoenix (which last occurred on March 26, 1988). #azwx

In Phoenix, Arizona, temperatures could reach an unbelievable 107°F (+42°C) on Friday. If that verifies, it would break the record for the earliest occurrence of 107°F since records began in 1895, pulverising the previous record by a whopping 44 days.
This is totally bonkers.

The ENTIRE western United States will be setting either daily or monthly record high temperatures by next Thursday. 🌡📈
This is NOT normal ... my weather maps are literally on fire 🔥

🥵 History will be made next week! The NOAA NDFD forecast high for Palm Springs, CA on Friday is now 111!! Insane for March. That would smash the current US record for hottest March day (108°) in Texas. And that merely scratches the surface as to how rogue this western heat wave will be next week. Hundreds of cities will break all-time records for March and even April.
