It sure would be!
It would be tone deaf if Congress makes it easier to build data centers right after an election with bipartisan rage against shoving them down the throats of local communities.

Joyous, chilly morning at the starting line for Detroit marathon (I’m running the half)

the explicit justification for this legislative deal by Sen Dems Whitehouse & Heinrich is that this is a climate bill that will reduce emissions. The fact that now its proponents are admitting that the emissions benefits are hazy punch a pretty large credibility hole here
We behave as if Thou Shall Quantify Emissions Effects is the 11th Commandment so we can’t simply say “I Don’t Know” even when it’s clearly the right answer and would gain us credibility for other situations when we can reasonably quantify effects

Great to see @AyannaPressley and @chrisrabb campaigning for @AbdulElSayed today in Detroit and emphasizing that the real power comes from the people!

Blue Rose Research's @davidshor on why AI data centers have become a major issue in the midterms, with just 12% of voters wanting one nearby compared to 13% for a prison: "If you ask voters, 'Do you want a data center built in your neighborhood?' 12% of voters say yes. If you ask whether they want a prison, 13% say yes. Those numbers were in the 40s 8 months ago." "Data centers have become just a radioactively unpopular thing, and both political parties are running tons of ads about that." "I personally think that AI is gonna be the dominant issue about a year from now when these primaries are really kicking off."
The single biggest thing that AI proponents can do to make the public support the currently extremely unpopular massive AI buildout is to push their political allies to pass comprehensive legislation to make sure that the gains from artificial intelligence are broadly shared

New poll shows voters in New Jersey (like everywhere!) really hate data centers, and not just in their backyards but anywhere in the state. eagletonpoll.rutgers.edu/wp-…

Three food mega-mergers are in the works right now: Kroger + Giant Eagle Sysco + Restaurant Depot McCormick + Unilever's food business If the Trump admin rubber-stamps these deals, it could mean even higher food prices.

Hey, maybe Dem leadership shouldn't cut a deal right now to fast track data centers with a historically unpopular president?
Replying to @OwenWntr
Trump voters are driving the trend. Around 17% of those who live within 2km of a data centre now say they'll support Democrats in November, compared with around 6% elsewhere

This seems to highlight that $10 now basically buys two gallons of gas . . .
Kristi Rogers, the wife of Republican U.S. Senate nominee Mike Rogers, is passing out $10 gas cards at the freedom fuel gas station on Harper and Cadieux. She’s highlighting Rogers’ call to suspend the state gas tax.

We're paying $300M a year for gas that leaks into our homes, making us sicker. We're paying $1B a year for gas companies to tear up our streets to repair antiquated infrastructure. And then there's the cost of storm damage. We must invest in renewable energy instead.

Why do both the humans and the robot in this video stand like two feet away here? This isn't cornhole!
I’m still half in disbelief We asked Gemini Argon to teach the Apollo humanoid to play cornhole, and it zero-shotted it All we gave it was a video of a person doing it. It then took control of the robot, generated its own sim env, performed some sysID, and trained launches on the real robot. It took it a few real shots to improve and then land many consecutive airmails. The process was so long and articulated that we asked the robot itself to explain what it did to us, as you can see at the end of the video. It even came up with the gestures Great demo for a great model @googledeepmind @apptronik

NEW: We joined 185 advocacy groups in urging Congressional leaders to say NO to back-door permitting deals that would speed up the hyperscale data center buildout and the fossil fuel infrastructure often used to power these facilities. Read the letter: fwwat.ch/47QqZX0

Good reminder that the potential permitting deal relies on verbal commitments from the Trump administration to stop attacking renewables … Imagine making that deal immediately after the election. It would be political malpractice by the Dems.
🚨The Trump administration wants to remand a crucial permit for Orsted’s revolution wind farm off the Rhode Island coast. The DOJ motion made in a legal filing late Friday could threaten a delicate permitting deal with Democrats.

seems like this isn’t exactly an ideal environment to pass “build big things faster” legislation immediately after the midterms

Want to stop data centers? Then, help elect candidates for Congress who are committed to stopping them. Fund some of the strongest candidates here (100% of the funds goes to these candidates' campaigns). secure.actblue.com/donate/da…

If you think the way to transition to renewables is by taking a deal that allows for faster construction of behemoth AI data centers and fossil fuel infrastructure, I don't really know what to tell you. Congress must reject this horrible "permitting reform" deal

From @billmckibben, this is the key reason that the permitting reform bill is likely a net negative for climate.
