In less than a year HellMarch has nearly reached Platinum status on DTRPG. Thanks everyone! This is your reminder than you CAN just do off-the-cuff, theater of the mind mass combats in D&D, Shadowdark, etc, with just a handful of d6!
HellMarch - Mass Combat is now in print, featuring gorgeous new full-cover art by @BLKfeatherPress! These rules are for mixing Heroic and Mass Combat: Not just heroes leading troops, but also lone heroes fighting hoards of enemies, sieges, etc. Link & info below! #shadowdark #dnd

I'm a sucker for the gold leaf and gilding, even / especially when RPGs pull it off well. Bonus credit to @TheBasicExpert1 for pulling it off with red for Macuahuitl, though it seems impossible to photograph how beautiful it turned out.
When you fork over 20$ for a book you already have because it's trampstamped with foil and leatherbound.

Is one true language derived from the structure of reality... Or is the structure of reality derived from one true language? "In the beginning was the Word."
So it seems that developing LLMs has persuaded very clever people that there is one true language which is derived from the structure of reality. Which is nice.

The soup aisle is not unique to the D&D community. It actually exists in every community.
God is testing me by sending me people with annoying comments on AO3. I need to not take it personally and move on. That's His lesson. Take on feedback. Move on.

I can’t speak for others but my desire for robust rules has less to do with competitive and PvP play and more a desire for verisimilitude and agency. As a player, I don’t want the GM to make it up as he goes along and I don’t want no prep improvisation. I as a player want a game world with knowable rules and fixed canon so that I can appreciate its existence as a “real” secondary world. I believe agency is not really possible when it’s left to GM fiat and GM improvisation to decide. I wrote all of Arbiter of Worlds about this. It is my belief that robust rules in an objective world are most conducive to flourishing player agency, immersion, and if desired competition and PvP. The downside is they require more investment in learning and (for the GM) prep so they are not for everyone. But I personally don’t like playing with no prep role light GMs. ACKS is designed for what I want to play, not for what is easiest to GM, or most empowering to the GM.

Balanced encounters are the worst. Maneuvering fights to their advantage, or escaping on their own judgement call, is FAR more rewarding and exciting. Also, OD&D Hobbits (per Chainmail p43): > Hobbits have the ability to become invisible in brush or woods
Replying to @AlchemicRaker
"Nazgul are way too high a challenge rating for hobbits!"

If the agents of Chaos aren't careful, the Neutrals are going to start recognizing patterns. OD&D's three-point alignment system is Christian-coded and fantastic. (This is a post about everything.)
Didn't you guys harrass and sent death threats to multiple streamers for even thinking of playing Hogwarts legacy? Do you people do anything consistently?

Balance is overrated and I'm not joking. #ttrpg
Working on the "ancestries" for The Bureau of Extraordinary Affairs. You can play a vampire, a werewolf, a mummy, an invisible man, a flesh golem, a fish creature, a ghost, a "Hyde", all sorts of stuff (and a regular ol' human of course). And even though it's Shadowdark, I'm giving them a lot more traits than the ones in the core book get, just for setting reasons. I'm also not worrying about balance as much. I feel their flavor comes before mechanical consistency. I'm probably gonna do a table of generic traits (and drawbacks) you can slap onto ancestries from other Shadowdark books if you want to use them, though, to bring them roughly in line.

Trying out this secret recipe for returning to Malfoid week. Seeing if it works. QT, tagging @NWBroJaneway, etc
Fixed my algorithm. It's back to ALL MALFOID

This is why AI is crap for D&D. There is no real Good without real Evil. There are no real Heroes without real Villains. A neutered AI is only going to give you Super Kitties plots where the Villain's goal is to turn on all the lights at night 'cuz they're scared of the dark.
I would think the quality of my work speaks for it not being AI. So when people say it is, They're saying my work is bad enough to be confused for AI. Which as a creative I take very personally and it angers me. Also I have tried several times to have Chat GPT or Claude edit my work for me and both refused outright due to my heckin gross racism and noticing in the text. So I edit by hand.

West Marches has the conceit of being bigger while retaining all the exact same problems of conventional play.
