We deserve to make our own informed choice about what we want to drink, including knowing that alcohol causes cancer.
Most people want our kids to be free from pressures to drink. We can put higher standards on alcohol that will help protect our kids from harm.
Survey alert! Researchers from the University of South Australia want to hear what you think of alcohol labels displaying the energy content (calories) on the bottle. Click the link to get involved:

Many of us are concerned about the harm alcohol causes: social harms like violence, health issues like addiction, and we now know even small amounts over time can damage our DNA, which can lead to cancer.
Come along to our Public Lecture to hear from leading New Zealand experts who will help shine a light on the truth about alcohol, including Professors Jennie Connor and Taisia Huckle and AHW's Sarah Sneyd.

Most of the harm from alcohol is to people other than the drinker. E.g. road deaths, FASD, child maltreatment, family violence. But when we understand all the harms (including cancer), and how our environments are saturated in alcohol – we can better protect the people we love.

Alcohol is NZ’s most harmful drug, costing $9.1b a year. Restricting outlet numbers reduces harm, but only if we know where outlets are. Right now, we don’t. @AlcHealthwatch phcc.org.nz/briefing/invisib…
Excellent opinion published in yesterday's ODT by our own Sarah Sneyd. She raises concerns around the proposed alcohol law changes in NZ and how they seem to benefit only the alcohol industry.

The government has signed off on loosening alcohol restrictions rather than introducing evidence-based harm reduction measures that could have prevented 2,400 violent victimisations a year.

"We will continue to miss every meaningful opportunity to reduce or prevent alcohol harm in New Zealand if we continue to allow unbridled access to power for harmful commodity industries." - Andrew Galloway, Executive Director, Alcohol Healthwatch.

Every baby deserves the best possible start in life.
But our new research shows that 34% of alcohol products in shops right now don’t show the mandatory pregnancy warning label. lnkd.in/g2AkwKKS
Yet almost 80% had industry designed messaging on them.
Big Alcohol have already spent over 20 years fighting this pregnancy warning label. They have financial incentives to continue to sidestep the label or make it less effective.
We have a right to information to help us make informed choices about what to consume.
