Many of us will want to know when you are intending to give up your seat in the House of Lords? Two thirds of us in this country do not want Palantir anywhere near our public services.
After six wonderful years at UK Music, I'm joining Palantir UK as Senior Vice President. Palantir is the most interesting company on the planet, doing work of real consequence: helping Britain and its allies defend themselves, helping police protect our citizens and helping NHS staff get patients treated and home sooner. London is comfortably its largest centre outside the US, home to more than one in six employees, the highest proportion among the world's largest technology companies. We have challenges. Some criticism is propaganda. Some raises legitimate questions about large technology companies and sovereign control. Both require answers. Part of my role will be to correct false information while working with our engineers to ensure privacy, security and respect for sovereignty are at the heart of everything we do.

If government is to overhaul failing infrastructure, accelerate the green transition and reshape strategically important industries like water and energy, it needs the freedom to act without facing billion-pound claims from foreign investors. A little-known area of trade policy hides this particular weapon: Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS). Other countries are already tackling this - it's time we caught up. I wrote about this in the New Statesman: newstatesman.com/spotlight/2…

Astonishing fact: the BBC has not broadcast an iv with Francesca Albanese since Dec '23. Almost 3 yrs of genocide & they've not once felt the need to talk to the UN's Special Rapporteur for human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories. /1

Israeli settlers stole a donkey from a Palestinian farmer - and dragged it behind a vehicle until it died. Footage shows the animal struggling as it's pulled. Israeli settlers have once again proven that there is no bottom to their inhumanity.

“The whole thing is such a massive scam [..] that most people can’t believe it.” Recently I hosted a screening of the documentary-drama exposing the sewage scandal, #DirtyBusiness, in Norwich. It was important to me that my constituents got to hear from the real people behind the show. People like Ash Smith of @WindrushWasp, who's spent 10+ years uncovering mass criminality in our privatised water system. Privatisation has failed us. It’s time for public ownership.

Excellent debunking of the @onward report which attempted, but failed, to justify @Conservatives abandonment of net zero. The report is a textbook example of policy-based evidence-making.

The state is devoting an incredible amount of resource into attempting to paint anyone opposed to genocide as a “terrorist”. Notably, the trial against Tony Greenstein, a Jewish anti-Zionist, intends to suggest that a tweet opposing genocide seen by ~100 people is terrorism.
The trial of veteran Jewish anti-Zionist writer Tony Greenstein has opened at Kingston Crown Court under Section 12 of the Terrorism Act over online posts from late 2023. Following preliminary legal arguments heard in the morning, the prosecution opened its case to the jury. The Crown pointed to an exchange on X where, prompted to post "I support Hamas", Greenstein qualified his reply: "I support the Palestinians that is enough and I support Hamas against the Israeli army." To argue his mindset, the Crown placed his wider blog posts from October and November before the jury. The full exhibits showed Greenstein calling out Western double standards—condemning Joe Biden and James Cleverly for backing armed resistance in Ukraine while condemning it in Palestine—alongside comparisons to the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, citations of a 2014 Guardian report on Gaza, and an advert for his published book on Zionism during the Holocaust. The prosecution noted these posts had an audience between 56 and 151 views. Greenstein has pleaded not guilty. The prosecution continues tomorrow, with the defence case expected later this week. #TonyGreenstein #KingstonCrownCourt #Gaza #FreeSpeech @financialeyes

A British citizen in their 20s heads over to #Israel, takes part in killing children and other civilians. Comes back and nothing is done. An elderly lady says that she is opposed to this activity and the police arrest her as a terrorist. Is this some sort of Kafka novel?

A former World Bank president has sounded the alarm, revealing that the Federal Reserve has lost over a trillion dollars—and counting—turning it into nothing more than a massive hedge fund for the rich and powerful. He claims the Fed is borrowing money from banks at 5.4% interest, then pouring it into government bonds, creating the illusion that the government’s financial situation is better than it actually is. He warns that this scheme isn’t just limited to the U.S.—it’s happening across central banks worldwide.

🚨 Bank Of Japan’s Yuto Warns Of Catastrophic Unwind Incoming After Forced U.S. Takeover of BoJ Yuto has warned that BoJ is being pressured and losing independence by U.S. and Japanese Administration. The suffering that results, will be amplified tenfold. Japan’s Finance Minister and the BoJ were threatening “BOLD ACTIONS” to save the collapsing yen. BoJ official Yuto even publicly apologized for the emergency measures they had ready… like they knew something catastrophic was coming. Then BOOM… U.S. Treasury Secretary steps in and LITERALLY takes over BoJ operations. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent even warned the Fed to expand the FIMA facility to Japan NOW or watch the yen collapse and drag U.S. Treasuries down with it. Japan’s own Prime Minister is now threatening the BoJ Governor to Buy Japanese treasuries. The BoJ is begging them not to, warning it would be total financial catastrophe… the kind that vaporizes savings, tanks the currency into free-fall, and sparks a sovereign debt death spiral the world hasn’t seen since the 1900s. The BoJ desperately wants to hike rates to stop the bleeding and save Japan’s economy. But Washington and Japan’s own administration are blocking them cold. This isn’t policy. This is a hostile takeover of Japan’s monetary sovereignty. The yen is being sacrificed. This was exactly warned by the famous City of London banker @LordBelgrave at the start of the year. Once the yen falls and Japan submits, the rest of the world will follow. The old system is being dismantled in plain sight.
日本銀行が日本国民のために行動しているのに対し、現政権は外国の同盟国や外国の組織の利益のために動いています。 このようなことを言うのは断腸の思いですが、その結果として生じる苦しみは、10倍にも増幅されることになるでしょう。

CHINA FORFEITS 450 MILLION BARRELS IN ONE MONTH: WHY OIL PRICES ARE CRASHING DESPITE RECORD INVENTORY DRAWS Eric Nuttall, Senior Portfolio Manager of Ninepoint Energy Strategies, revealed the single biggest reason oil prices have collapsed despite record-low inventories. China quietly slashed its oil imports by 4.9 million barrels per day in June alone, forfeiting nearly 450 million barrels and draining its own hidden stocks. This massive move has temporarily masked the true tightness in the physical market and created one of the largest disconnects between fundamentals and price in decades. The result is oil trading in the high 60s while the real balance sheet screams much higher. THE INVENTORY REALITY CHECK ➡️ Global oil inventories are at the lowest levels ever seen for this time of year. ➡️ We have moved from a 177 million barrel surplus before the war to a 141 million barrel deficit relative to the five-year average. ➡️ Total inventory draws since the conflict began reach 430 million barrels, creating a 508 million barrel swing compared to last year. ➡️ US commercial oil inventories now sit at their lowest level since at least 2016. THE PRODUCT SHORTAGE SIGNAL ➡️ Gasoline and distillate stocks show clear shortages in key regions. ➡️ Refinery crack spreads for gasoline and diesel have hit all-time highs, up 182 percent year to date. ➡️ These extreme margins prove strong underlying product demand that contradicts the weak price action. THE STRATEGIC RESERVE FLOOR ➡️ US strategic petroleum reserves have fallen to 325 million barrels. ➡️ That is the lowest level since June of 1983. ➡️ Advisers close to the issue see 300 million barrels as a practical floor the market cannot breach without serious consequences. THE CHINA STOCKPILE DRAIN ➡️ China cut oil imports by a staggering 4.9 million barrels per day in June. ➡️ They have forfeited nearly 450 million barrels of imports in a single month, drawing down invisible domestic stocks. ➡️ Yet every mobility indicator from flights to road traffic shows demand remains very strong. ➡️ This buying behavior is unsustainable and the return of Chinese demand will expose the real tightness. THE TEMPORARY SUPPLY SURGE ➡️ Post-truce tanker traffic out of the Strait has surged to about 10 ships per day. ➡️ Roughly 140 million barrels of previously sanctioned Iranian oil are now accessible to the market. ➡️ Still, 9.4 million barrels per day of regional production remains shut in across the Middle East. ➡️ The market is absorbing a short-term flood that analysts expect will fade within one to two months. THE FINANCIAL MARKET BLIND SPOT ➡️ Speculative net length in oil has collapsed back to pre-war levels. ➡️ The paper market is pricing oil as if the anticipated glut from before the conflict is still here. ➡️ Physical fundamentals point to an implied fair value of 130 to 140 dollars per barrel. THE ADMINISTRATION RESPONSE ➡️ Vice President JD Vance stated the goal is to refill the world's oil economy and restock supplies. "What the president has told us to do is to use this to sort of refill the world's oil economy to refill some stocks and then see where the hand is." ➡️ The timing of the truce announcement right before the market open showed clear concern over energy price impacts ahead of the midterms. THE BOTTOM LINE The oil market is far tighter than current prices suggest because China temporarily drained its stocks and a post-truce supply surge is hitting all at once. Once those barrels are absorbed and China returns as a buyer, the real shortage will become impossible to ignore. Energy stocks are already discounting around 60 dollar oil while the marginal cost of new supply sits near 70 dollars. The rebound in oil prices is closer than the market thinks. This is uncomfortable to watch. MP Jeevan Sandher squirms in his seat, unable to answer how Burnham’s mass council housebuilding would be funded while trapped in the fiscal rules straitjacket. One way to begin to fund it is to: impose rent controls and make it illegal to discriminate against housing benefit recipients. That alone could save the government at least £5bn a year. At £200,000 per home, that’s enough to build 25,000 council homes annually, around 12.5 times as many as were built this year.
