“Last week, the work of translators was in the spotlight after the writer Yilin Wang said she did not receive any credit or reimbursement for her translations of the work of Qiu Jin in the British Museum’s China’s Hidden Century exhibition.” theguardian.com/books/2023/j…
❤️ to clients who appreciate commitment! After a race against the clock this morning to provide a client with an urgent translation needed for a negotiation, they just called and offered to double my fee for urgent jobs this time because of the fast response and reliability 🥰
A very insightful lecture by Lara Albertinazzi from the CJEU about the work of lawyer linguists and the challenges of legal translation
Many interesting points raised by professor Massey during today’s lecture. What exactly are soft skills in the language industry? How to teach, develop and measure them? How to stay on top of things when so many things in the industry are changing so quickly?
Professor Gary Massey from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences is speaking here today about educating for today’s language industry.
Another day, another #Fitbit issue. Why is the app showing me this, if I have the latest iOS version installed (16.3.1)? @FitbitSupport
“Es obligatorio escribir sin tilde el adverbio solo en contextos donde su empleo no entrañe riesgo de ambigüedad y es optativo tildar el adverbio solo en contextos donde, a juicio del que escribe, su uso entrañe riesgo de ambigüedad.” 🤔 elpais.com/cultura/2023-03-0…
Here we go again, @FitbitSupport, your app has been crashing all afternoon. I’ve already seen multiple people commenting on the same issue and your generic recommendations are useless. Please fix this thoroughly!
I should really start tracking the time it takes me to undo every action accidentally triggered by CAT shortcuts I had no intention of hitting. Happens almost daily 🤯
Same thing happened today and roughly at the same time as it did yesterday. COME ON, FITBIT. #FitbitDown
Hi @FitbitSupport what is up with your app? My Versa won’t sync and the app is missing stats from the last hour or so. I see multiple ppl reporting the same issue, please fix!
One of the things that the pandemic has changed in ways of working is that people tend to send work emails at any time of day (or night) and seem to expect a reply straight away. I now regularly receive emails from PMs on weekends or before midnight. Is work-life balance dead?
Starting the year with lots of great books! I’ve already devoured “The light we carry” and just recently started reading “Quiet”. #bookworm
This also goes for any excuses such as “But what we’ve agreed on with the client is this…”. I always reply with “That is your agreement with that client that I was not consulted on. I have no say in how you conduct your business. I do, however, decide on how to conduct mine.”

So a few agencies (independently from one another) have informed me recently that they are offering their clients a January discount and asked whether I am okay with this. I am not okay with this!! My plumber didn’t give me a January discount, nor did my accountant. 🙄
Some people asked for book recs, so here are a few I enjoyed:
1.“Why we sleep” by Matthew Walker (very insightful)
2.“Me” by Elton John (very engaging)
3.“American Seoul” by Helena Rho (very moving)
4.“We’re going to need more wine” by Gabrielle Union (very entertaining)
Clients, when we ask for clarification or additional context, this is NOT meant to offend you. It’s a sign that we CARE and we want your text to be clear and easily understood by the target audience. Your message is important and we want to get it right. #xl8 #precision
