A telling reminder of littering's impact on wildlife. This little male sand lizard was very lucky we came across it whilst surveying. The other wasn't so lucky. As well as posing a fire risk, discarded bottles can be a death trap for small animals, so take your rubbish home folks

Pheasants have a massive impact on reptiles and will fatally injure adders and leave them to die... as they are released on adder sites, it’s another major factor believed to be driving their declines 😞

This is great news, some much needed media for the often forgotten adder! Congratulations @ARGroupsUK

@RSPBMinsmere @RSPBintheEast Please respect these sensitive #reptiles as they emerge🐍watch from a respectful distance to avoid disturbing them as they need to bask to help facilitate reproduction👍females only breed every 2-3 years so need their space🙂 @reptileproject @AdderAid
Very important, please read and share...
CRITICAL PRESS RELEASE! We now have published the results of a national study which shows us Adders are in danger of extinction. Please read and share so we can get the word out arguk.org/get-involved/news/… @ARGroupsUK @BioSolEcology @BBCWales @BBCRadioWales

This bit of footage is a couple of years old now, but it is still an amazing clip of an adder trying to get its lunch.
Adders usually feed on small mammals, lizards, nesting birds and frogs. They can use both ambush and active hunting techniques to find and kill their prey.

Great fact and photo...
As it's #TongueOutTuesday , here is my contribution. Snakes use their tongues to pick up scent in the air. Their tongues are forked to calculate direction and distance. #reptile #snake @SussexARG @ARGroupsUK @ARC_Bytes @BritishHerpSoc @froglifers @MontWildlife @TetZoo @bakerwell

The British Herpetological Society has finally joined Twitter! Thank you to everyone for all the follows already. Our friend and keen herpetologist Steve Allain will be managing the account, with occasional help from me, Chris Gleed-Owen (BHS Chairman).

Do join in and create an adder stone! Paint any stone with a nice adder design using acrylic paint, spray with clear varnish (optional), write @AddersAmazing and/or the FB link in marker on the back and place on an adder spot near you! 😀🐍
Public perception can pose a huge barrier to species #conservation, and sadly the #adder is affected by this. The @AddersAmazing project is working to change this through public engagement and #education. Could you make an ‘adder stone’ and pass on the message near you?
Lots of lovely adder photos coming in recently. Remember if you spot an adder you can help create more up to date information on adder population sizes and distribution. Just clink on the links and follow the instructions...

Beautiful picture of a female adder, basking in this wintery sun. Thanks for sharing.
First Adder of the year 🐍@HumberheadLevel @AdderAid @wildlife_uk @Natures_Voice @BBCSpringwatch @paulasykes1971 @kevinclarke1969 #reptiles 15 Feb 2019 😎📸
Another lovely clip and some good advice. Although the adder is venomous they are not aggressive and if left undisturbed they will not attack you. Take care whilst walking with children and dogs to not disturb the basking snakes:)

@AdderAid first one of the year for me

Anyone come across a basking Snake. Please leave plenty of distance as easily disturbed and also Dogs on leads!
A lovely picture and great advice.
As the fabulous #Adder emerges from hibernation please do not harass or cause them stress by seeking that 'perfect' photograph😟 Today's were taken from well back & the enjoyment is watching them without disturbing them👍respect #reptiles #fieldcraft #herptiles
Retweeting this article as I would like to know if the project has been successful. Can anybody in the Denbighshire area, or anyone in the know cast some light on this? Also if it has been successful, could it be done in other areas of the UK?
@DenbighshireCC @BristolCouncil
This is a very interesting idea, adders suffer from persecution and habitat destruction if this can work, it could mitigate human wildlife conflict and make good use of road side verges.
