I gave a talk at #IHIForum on bringing social movement principles into health & care improvement. These are some of my slides: 1) I love this quote from Rebecca Solnit; it epitomises why we need movement building principles, to enable big groups of people to walk together, towards a better future. 2) The bodies of knowledge that make up "Leading improvement and change in organizations and systems" and "Social movement theory and practice" each represents 100+ years of practice, study & knowledge. Yet they have been like twin train tracks, developing separately. It is only in recent years that the thinking has started to come together, mostly because of the need for the organisational world to develop more relational approaches to large scale change. 3) It is helpful to think about the "anatomy" and "physiology" of change. Social movement approaches can help to build fuel/energy for change. 4) Appreciating that binaries have their limitations, this slide seeks to contrast a "programmatic" and "movement" view of change. We can build a programmatic approach with movement principles. @TheIHI

A systematic review of research on workplace breaks shows that: 1) Regular micro breaks can be better than longer breaks 2) Outdoor breaks & fresh air are better than indoor breaks 3) Scrolling social media is the most common break type but it creates emotional exhaustion 4) Spending a break with a furry companion is beneficial hbr.org/2023/05/how-to-take-… Via @ZhannaLyubykh Graphic @DariusForoux

Ed Davey @EdwardJDavey An emotional film with him on @skynews just now (they haven't put that film up yet so not attached, link please). His father died when he was 4 & his mother died of cancer when he was 15 so he was brought up by his grandparents. He knows the pain.
£200 million is "no where near enough" to help keep children out of the care system, says Sir @EdwardJDavey - adding that £2 billion is needed over the next four years to address the "scandal" #KayBurley: trib.al/FOvZGJK 📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233 and YouTube

I’ve thought about this overnight and it’s clear that a lot of people are finding it very difficult to watch Matt Hancock on #ImACeleb If he really wants to show viewers the human side of politicians, maybe he could leave the show & donate his £400,000 to the NHS.

❄ The CIPD previously described the progress made to flexible working over the last 10-15 years as ‘glacial’. Yet almost overnight, #flexibleworking turned tidal, with remote and ‘hybrid’ or ‘agile’ working becoming the new normal. @ActusSoftware okt.to/kf0WVT

If a public official was so brazenly bent in Line of Duty, AC-12 would nick him in the first five minutes. No wonder the Gaffer has to ask, “When did we stop caring about honesty and integrity?” bbc.com/news/uk-politics-567…
