ALT This shows a summary of the total numbers of people applying and funded in the new Australian biomedical research funding scheme. Women vs men, apologies to non-binary, data lacking. Left graph: There were similar numbers of women vs men applying at the 2 post-doc levels, a slight reduction in women there onwards. Men was similar except more men applying at junior lab head level than senior post-doc level. Middle graph: Similar numbers of recipients at the post-doc levels, with a striking reduction in women recipients afterwards. The independent lab heads are assessed and ranked together (supposedly relative to opportunity is taken into consideration but the outcomes don’t reflect this), more men at the most senior lab head level were awarded grants compared to women at the same level & men and women at the junior lab head levels. Right graph: at the L1 junior lab head level (when people are starting their independent research career), there is less $ awarded to women.
