Pastoral lands have high capabilities for Ecosystem restoration thru Natural Regeneration despite droughts caused by #ClimateCrisis . By creating land enclosures to prevent human and livestock activities, cut down trees, shrubs and root suckers quickly grow to full potential.

What if we stopped seeing our drylands as a problem to manage and started seeing them as an economy to build? This is the opportunity climate urgency presents: to stop reacting to drought and degradation and start building a genuine restoration economy that invests in healthy soils, resilient rangelands, water, biodiversity and the people who steward them every day. #MazingiraMonday Adaptation: From responding to climate risk to investing in resilience Climate change is already changing how we live, work and do business. So what does adaptation actually mean? Climate adaptation is about adjusting to the impacts of a changing climate and reducing the risks they create. Think drought-resistant agriculture.
Better water systems.
Flood-resilient infrastructure.
Early warning systems.
Climate-smart buildings.
Insurance and financial products that help businesses manage climate shocks. But there’s another conversation we need to have: Can adaptation become an investment opportunity? For a long time, adaptation has largely been framed as a cost, something we need to finance because climate impacts are already here. But adaptation can also create economic value. The opportunity is to identify projects that build resilience while generating sustainable economic returns, and then create the financial structures that allow investors to participate. That means stronger project pipelines, better project preparation, innovative finance, appropriate risk-sharing and more local capital. The question isn’t only “How much do we need to spend on adaptation?” It’s also: “How do we make resilience investable?” That’s a conversation Africa needs to be part of. #MazingiraMonday #ClimateAdaptation #ClimateFinance #Africa #ClimateResilience #SustainableFinance

When we talk about climate change, we often picture melting glaciers or rising sea levels. But climate change is also about people. It’s the farmer who loses an entire harvest because the rains didn’t come. It’s the family displaced by floods. It’s the child who misses school because drought has forced them to walk further for water. Climate change is an environmental issue, but it’s also an economic, health, food security, and human rights issue. The solutions we create must protect both the planet and the people who depend on it. Because climate action is ultimately about building a future where everyone can thrive. #ClimateChange #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Africa #EarthStoryAfrica

CLIMATE CHANGE REFRESHER: Climate Change is a long-term shift in global weather patterns and temperatures, driven primarily by human activities like burning FOSSIL FUELS, cutting down forests, and other other unsustainable industrial operations, which release heat-trapping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. MAIN CAUSES 1. Burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas for electricity and transport 2. Cutting down large forests, which releases stored carbon back into the air 3. Unsustainable farming and industrial practices that add methane and nitrous oxide to the air. MAJOR EFFECTS -Higher global average temperatures and more intense heatwaves -Melting ice sheets and glaciers that cause sea levels to rise -More frequent extreme weather events like severe floods, droughts, and wildfires WHAT CAN WE DO? - 2 tracks 1. Mitigation: Cut emissions - Renewable energy: solar, wind, hydro - Electric vehicles + public transport - Protect forests, better farming(CSA) - Massive reforestation 2. Adaptation: Live with the changes - Flood defenses, better drainage - Drought-resistant crops - Early warning systems for heatwaves/floods - Climate-smart cities #ClimateActionNow

When people hear the term #climatefinance they often think it’s only for governments, development banks, or large corporations. But climate finance is simply investing in solutions that help tackle climate change while creating economic value. So, what does that look like? Investing in renewable energy projects like solar and wind. Supporting climate-smart agriculture that helps farmers adapt to changing weather patterns. Backing businesses working in recycling, waste management, and the circular economy. Financing clean transportation, from electric vehicles to sustainable public transport. Investing in water conservation, green buildings, and other climate-resilient infrastructure. For investors, climate finance isn’t just about doing good. It’s about recognising one of the fastest-growing investment opportunities of our time. As Africa continues to innovate, there is enormous potential to invest in businesses that deliver both financial returns and positive environmental impact. The question is no longer whether to invest in climate solutions. It’s where we choose to invest. If you had capital to invest today, which climate solution would you back? #ClimateFinance #GreenInvestment #SustainableFinance #Africa #ClimateAction #EarthStoryAfrica

NEMA is implementing the "Enhancing Community Resilience and Water Security in the Upper Athi River Catchment Area in Kenya" project, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The project marks a significant step towards strengthening climate resilience and enhancing water security across Nyandarua, Kiambu, Nairobi, and Machakos counties. Yesterday, the Authority conducted a project site screening exercise in the target counties to assess the suitability of priority sites earmarked for rehabilitation to improve community access to water. The exercise covered Kamiti Dam and Karuri Spring in Kiambu County, as well as Mekilingi Dam, Masii Borehole, and Kathueni Borehole in Machakos County. The assessment will inform rehabilitation interventions aimed at improving the functionality, sustainability, and climate resilience of the water infrastructure, reaffirming NEMA's commitment to environmental conservation and enhanced water security for local communities. The project is being implemented by NEMA as the Accredited Entity, in collaboration with the Water Resources Authority (WRA) and the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD). @theGCF @WRA_KEN @MeteoKenya

The first 🦒 that arrived in China was a gift to Kublai Khan, the founder of the Yuan dynasty, from the Ajuraan Sultanate. The sensational event was recorded in the below Chinese miniature, which also narrates how the Chinese elites were impressed by the erudition of Ajuraan special envoy, the polymath Ibn Said Al Mogadishi.

𝐆𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐔𝐏 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃 𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐀𝐅𝐅𝐄 𝐃𝐀𝐘! In the lead-up to World Giraffe Day on June 20th, 2025, the Kenya Wildlife Service was honored to host the team from AFEW Kenya – @GiraffeCentre , led by CEO Christine Nyang’aya, for a high-level planning session with KWS Director General Prof. @ErustusKanga . For over four decades, the Giraffe Centre has been a pillar in conservation education—working hand in hand with KWS and other partners to raise awareness on the plight of the endangered Rothschild’s Giraffe. Their efforts have helped embed wildlife conservation in the hearts of thousands of Kenyan children and youth. Today’s meeting focused on collaborative efforts to make this year’s World Giraffe Day the most engaging and impactful yet—through community events, learning experiences, and national awareness campaigns. Together, we are shaping a future where giraffes continue to roam freely across Kenya’s landscapes. Watch this space for ways you can join the movement to protect our gentle giants. #WorldGiraffeDay2025 #TunzaMaliYako #SaveOurGiraffes

Great job, @WRTIKenya. Higher level strategy towards conserving wildlife, especially those outside parks & reserves. We're with you, at community level.
As outlined in our Strategic Plan (2023–2027), we are keen to provide leadership and coordination in wildlife research, and to support the provision of scientific data and information for informed decision-making in conservation.
