During Somali Fisheries Week 2026, we had the pleasure of welcoming Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama (@SalahJama) and Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy (@FisheriesDevSom ) H.E. Ahmed Hassan Aden aboard our fishing vessel, Maanya Mooya, at the Port of Mogadishu.
The visit highlighted the growing potential of Somalia’s fisheries industry and the important role of private sector investment in developing a competitive seafood sector.
At Marina Seafood, we are proud to contribute to this growth through continued investment, innovation, and sustainable fisheries development.

“Somalia’s time is now! A peaceful East Africa’s time is now!”
These words from H.E. Ambassador Beyene Russom captured the spirit of Day 1 at the third @GSEFForum
Our conversations centred on entrepreneurship, regional integration, investment and the role of peace in building stronger economies.
We explored the opportunities presented by Somalia’s membership in the East African Community and what it will take to translate regional integration into meaningful opportunities for Somali businesses.
One key takeaway: An open market does not automatically mean an accessible market. Businesses need access to finance, reliable infrastructure, predictable regulations and the right networks to thrive.
Day 1 reminded us that economic growth requires more than ambition. It requires collaboration, stability and action.
The opportunity is there. Now, we must build on it together.

He is so good at this. A once in a generation political talent, whatever else you may think of him (and I have many many agreements and many more disagreements with him).

Day One of GSEF 2026 marked an important step towards stronger economic cooperation with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Global Somali Entrepreneurship Forum (GSEF) and the East African Business Council (EABC) @EABCjumuiya
The partnership aims to connect Somali entrepreneurs with regional business networks, improve access to trade information and market opportunities, and facilitate business-to-business engagement across East Africa.
Through this collaboration, both organisations seek to create more opportunities for SMEs, including women- and youth-led businesses, to build partnerships and participate in regional trade.
Because regional integration means more when businesses can access the opportunities it creates.

Our country’s indigenous knowledge is a remarkable source of cultural wealth, innovation and economic opportunity. The traditional foods, medicinal knowledge, craftsmanship, technologies and artistic expressions passed down across generations hold immense potential to improve livelihoods and create sustainable enterprises within our communities.
The State Department for Culture, the Arts and Heritage, has documented and digitized over 800 indigenous heritage assets across 13 counties. This important milestone is helping safeguard community knowledge, protect cultural intellectual property and open opportunities for research, innovation and investment.
Aligned with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, our focus is on ensuring that communities benefit economically from their cultural knowledge while retaining ownership of their heritage. We are committed to supporting initiatives that turn this wealth of indigenous knowledge into opportunities for local enterprises, employment and lasting prosperity.

I had the pleasure of delivering the opening address at the third Global Somali Entrepreneurship Forum (GSEF 2026) in Nairobi, under the theme “Shaping the Future of East Africa through Innovation, Inclusive Governance, Regional Integration, and Sustainable Investment.”
My message was simple: every partnership begins with a conversation, but its real value lies in what happens next.
As we look towards a more connected and prosperous East Africa, we must create the conditions for businesses to thrive. That means strengthening institutions, embracing innovation and digital transformation, deepening regional trade and cooperation, and unlocking the potential of diaspora capital and sustainable investment.
It also means being intentional about inclusion, ensuring women and youth led enterprises have greater access to finance, mentorship and markets.
GSEF 2026 provides an important platform to bring these conversations to the table. The opportunity now is to turn them into meaningful connections, credible investment opportunities and partnerships that endure beyond the forum.
Because the future of East Africa will not be shaped by conversations alone, but by the action, collaboration and commitment that follow.

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to @AhmedFarah__ , Executive Director of the East African Business Council, for honouring us with his presence at the third Global Somalia Entrepreneurship Forum (GSEF) 2026.
His remarks highlighted the importance of Somalia’s membership in the East African Community (EAC) and how regional integration can unlock new opportunities for Somali businesses.
He drew attention to the significant trade imbalance, noting that Somalia imports nearly seven dollars’ worth of goods for every dollar it exports. As he aptly stated, “For a country with Somalia’s commercial talent, that is a gap we should be working hard to close.”

Thank you to everyone who stood with me over the years. It’s been a scary journey but I have always been grounded in my work and ability to provide exemplary service to my constituents. Trump and his administration have been after me since I arrived in Congress. I have always stood up to him and that will never change. The pedophile protector will never silence me.
BREAKING WaPo:
Trump officials scrutinized Rep. Ilhan Omar in 2019. They didn't find citizenship issues.
The earlier review of Omar's immigration records looked at many of the same issues being investigated now. washingtonpost.com/national-…
