Blocked by California legislator who wrote law that put me and many independent contractors out of work. Isn’t this illegal?
@PacificLegal @ManleyLiberty @pnjaban @LorenaSGonzalez @LorenaAD80
Only thing Lorena will be remembered for is destroying independent contractors careers with #AB5 and telling Elon Musk to go fuck himself.

I've called Newsom America's most corrupt governor. To see why, watch this exchange on his scheme to remove the End Prop. 47 initiative from the ballot.
Question: Are you not confident you can win at the ballot box?
Newsom: "I don't think there's a need to have it on the ballot."
This is the latest example of Newsom corrupting the political process - defying laws, norms, the will of voters, the constitutional itself - to preserve his own power.
We have seen Newsom change the rules for his own Recall, reward a Secretary of State who gave millions in taxpayer dollars to the Biden campaign, illegally try to remove ballot drop boxes from outside churches, illegally try to remove President Trump from the ballot, unilaterally override a voter death penalty initiative, and of course, abolish the legislative branch on the ground that a state of emergency "centralizes the state's power in the hands of the governor."
Again and again, courts have rebuked Newsom for compromising democracy and the rule of law. At this moment, State Supreme Court Justices that he appointed are poised to reject his attempt to take another initiative off the ballot: one that would institute a requirement of voter approval for tax increases. And his close ally is trying to overturn the election results for Prop. 22, where voters overwhelmingly repealed AB 5 for rideshare drivers.
But nothing compares to the corrupt scheme he and his allies have come up with for undermining the End Prop. 47 voter initiative, which is set to appear on the ballot thanks to nearly a million Californians signing a petition. The plan involves passing a package of bills through the Supermajority Legislature that are ostensibly tough-on-crime, then adding an unheard-of provision saying the bills will be automatically repealed if voters pass the End Prop. 47 initiative in November.
The point is to create a pretext for Newsom to lie to voters and say the initiative is actually a soft-on-crime measure because it will reverse these just-passed bills. Of course, that is outrageously false. The initiative doesn't mention the bills. The bills didn't even exist when the initiative was written. Any effect of the initiative on the bills will be a secondary consequence created by Newsom himself. Yet, without a doubt, the description on the ballot will gloss over the true purpose of fixing Prop. 47, and make it seem as though repealing these just-passed bills is what it's all about.
There's a reason Newsom is resorting to what, even for him, is an extraordinary act of corruption: polling shows the End Prop. 47 initiative will pass overwhelmingly on the merits. Indeed, it is endorsed by leading Democrats as well as Republicans, including San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, and San Francisco Mayor London Breed.
Californians have seen what reckless crime policies have done to our state. They are tired of having to hide their jewelry when they walk on public streets, get a clerk at CVS to open a lock just to buy shampoo, or wade through homeless encampments on their kids' path to school. Newsom knows he is facing a sweeping bipartisan repudiation of his failed policies. He sees that voters have taken matters into their own hands to fix California. And he isn't about to let them.
This is the ultimate consequence of Newsom's unrivaled corruption: it is ruining the greatest state in the country. We used to be the state where anyone could get ahead; under Newsom, we've become the place so many can't wait to leave behind. We were once the state Reagan said "should never take second place." Under Newsom, we lead the country in all the wrong ways: homelessness, poverty, unemployment, wage stagnation, U-Haul rentals.
This is the moment for Californians of all party affiliations to come together and say enough his enough. We might disagree on politics and policy. But one thing we can all agree on is that the people of California should be able to freely choose the destiny of our state. We cannot have a Governor who abuses his office to override the will of voters and keep our state on a downward spiral.

Foolish is a nice word for it. Biden is shamelessly copying the worst labor law in modern U.S. history, destroying millions of livelihoods and inflicting untold damage on the American economy.

It’s not just Panera and the minimum wage. Newsom auctioned off exemptions to his vaccine mandates. He gave over 100 exemptions to AB 5. He used “emergency powers” to give no-bid contracts to his major benefactors.
This is not “progressive” governance. It’s just corruption.

Tomorrow Bernie Sanders is convening a committee "hearing" on Julie Su's nomination. It will be held in secret. Su will not face questions.
Bernie knows Su will never be confirmed, so he's trying to spare her further embarrassment even as she remains Acting Secretary indefinitely and inflicts tremendous damage on American workers.
This farce needs to end.

I encourage every Californian to visit End47.com and sign the petition to end this craziness. Prop 47 gives looters a pass and it needs to be repealed.

Good news. The Initiative to End Prop. 47 now has over 400,000 signatures.
To add your signature, go to End47.com.
A total of 546,000 signatures is needed by April 23. We need a cushion of several hundred thousand extra because some will be invalidated.

It would be hard to come up with a more damaging economic regulation than Biden's "Independent Contractor" rule. The Administration is bent on eliminating freelancers and independent professionals from the workforce. In addition to threatening 600+ professions, the new rule:
-Will raise the costs of goods and wreak havoc on supply chains by taking truckers off the roads.
-Will increase gas prices by raising the cost of hauling motor fuels.
-Will shutter small businesses and stop countless others from ever getting off the ground.
-Will reduce important services in virtually every sector of the economy.
-Will prevent working parents, individuals with disabilities, and people with other challenging personal circumstances from having the flexibility needed to be part of the workforce.

Sweet Lady Jane is closing all six of its locations permanently after 35 years. The famous LA bakery cited the costs "of doing business in the state of California." This is part of a wave of business closures in the LA Area; the West Hollywood Chamber reports over 85 in the last year.
Meanwhile in San Francisco, the Adidas at the former Westfield mall is closing. The SF Chronicle reports the mall "has seen an exodus of stores closing, including the Lego Store, Cinemark movie theater and one of its biggest tenants in Nordstrom." The mall itself was surrendered to its lender last year.
This is part of a statewide trend of business closures and departures. As the Hoover Institute reports, "In 2021, California business headquarters left the state at twice their rate in both 2020 and 2019, and at three times their rate in 2018."
The result: higher costs for California consumers and less economic opportunity for California workers. The poverty rate here is the highest in the country and wage growth is the lowest in the country. This is the "model" that Newsom, Biden, and Julie Su are trying to spread nationwide.

US Labor Sec nominee Julie Su is opposed by:
❌Independent contractors
❌Taxpayers
❌Franchisees
❌Small business owners
❌Unemployed Californians victimized by Su's EDD mismanagement
The President must withdraw Su and select someone who didn't harm workers and lose $32 billion

Su’s nomination should be rejected on this basis alone. She defied Congress and withheld the benefits independent workers were actually entitled to. Even Adam Schiff told her to cut it out.
A reminder that during the height of the pandemic, @USDOL nominee Julie Su used her office in California to encourage independent contractors to apply for unemployment *benefits they were not entitled to receive* so she could play classification politics with their lives.
