We're accepting applications for funding under the first grants call of our new strategy. Grants range from £15,000 up to £30,000 per year for up to two years. The deadline for eligible civil society organisations to apply is 26 October. Applications must address one or more of our three priority themes: climate and environmental justice, economic inclusion and freedom of expression. These areas often overlap, and we encourage applicants to explore the connections between them. There should also be demonstrable consideration of gender and intersectionality. The Pacific Pre-COP in Fiji has put the priorities of climate-vulnerable island nations at the centre of preparations for COP31 in Antalya, with a focus on keeping 1.5 degrees within reach, elevating the ocean-climate nexus and accelerating access to finance. As Pacific countries call for climate action that reflects the realities facing their communities, the challenge for the Commonwealth is to turn international commitments and legal obligations into meaningful implementation. The ICJ’s landmark Advisory Opinion on climate change offers an important framework for this work. Civil society has a vital role to play in using legal and policy tools to strengthen advocacy, monitor implementation and advance environmental accountability. These conversations will continue at our upcoming People’s Forum session, International Court of Justice (ICJ) Landmark Ruling: One Year On, exploring how the Opinion can strengthen environmental accountability and amplify civil society advocacy across the Commonwealth. Over August and September, we have shared our platform with three inspiring guest writers. Neha Dixit, Richardo Aiken and Vishal Prasad have offered thoughtful reflections on the challenges facing freedom of expression, economic inclusion and climate and environmental justice. Bringing insight from their respective communities and backgrounds, their blogs have sought to illuminate a way forward for civil society during a convergence of crises. In the final blog of our series, Commonwealth Foundation Director-General, Razmi Farook, shares her own thoughts on these mounting challenges. Read her blog on our website now: bit.ly/3TLHoJ0

For communities across the Pacific, climate change is not a distant threat. It is already reshaping homes and livelihoods, threatening food and water security, and putting entire cultures and societies at risk. But communities on the frontlines are not simply victims. They are generating solutions, building resilience and demanding greater accountability. Climate and environmental justice is one of the key areas of focus in our new 2026–2031 Strategic Plan. Vishal Prasad, Director of Pacific Island Students Fighting Climate Change and a member of the International Court of Justice climate advisory opinion campaign, reflects on the power of youth leadership, community collaboration and collective action in advancing climate justice. 'Merely recognising creativity is not enough. To truly support creatives to thrive, we must form strong and lasting partnerships.' This week, Director-General Razmi Farook welcomed partners to the Commonwealth Creative Industries Alliance Public Launch Roundtable at Marlborough House. The roundtable brought together government representatives, industry leaders, investors, creators and Commonwealth institutions to explore how the Commonwealth can unlock the potential of its creative economy. Razmi highlighted the importance of strengthening access to finance, skills, markets, technology and intellectual property protections, while ensuring creators retain value from their work. With CHOGM approaching, the Alliance provides an opportunity to turn dialogue into practical action and place the creative economy firmly within wider Commonwealth conversations on growth, trade, young people and sustainable development. At the Commonwealth People’s Forum in November, the Foundation will continue this conversation with creatives themselves: commonwealthfoundation.com/e…
