On this day in 2000.
Seventeen U.S. Navy sailors were killed and 37 to 39 others were injured during the terrorist attack on the USS Cole Bombing on October 12, 2000.
The 17 U.S. Navy personnel who lost their lives were:

NEW: The FBI has thwarted a terror attack on the Mall of America in Minnesota involving an ISIS sympathizer named Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud.
The 18-year-old male was arrested and charged for allegedly planning a mass casualty attack.
Mohamud was reportedly under investigation for multiple years and traded messages with a confidential informant.
Mohamud was arrested on Tuesday in a public park when he tried to pay $600 to an undercover FBI employee for an AK-47 and 200 rounds of ammunition.
In text messages, he allegedly confirmed his intention to carry out an attack against non-Muslims.
Mohamud had previously told the informant that he planned on going to Somalia to join the Islamic State.
When he came to the conclusion that he didn't have the money to make it overseas, he allegedly decided to commit to martyrdom and commit mass violence at home in Minnesota.
"I am 100% committed to the cause of dying for the sake of Allah only," he said in one message.
He planned to target the Hmong Arts Celebration at the Mall of America on Oct. 24 because "it will be a lot of people."

These aren’t just morale paint jobs. Look at the rows of mission tallies and ordnance marks along the fuselages, every single one represents a real sortie into contested airspace. Did you guys catch the two boats??
One of these Warthogs was directly involved in the combat recovery of an F-15 pilot and weapons officer who went down over Iran. In the background of the shots you can see the F-15 tail with the words “That Others May Live”, the sacred motto of the rescue forces. When the call came, the A-10 answered. Close air support, on-station protection, and the quiet work of bringing our people home.
This is the side of airpower that stays in the gray. No fanfare. No press releases. Just lethal, ugly, beautiful Warthogs doing what they were built to do, and then disappearing back into the shadows until the next time they’re needed.
Huge respect to the crews who flew these jets home and to the follower who shared them with me.
