New York and Erie County representatives devoted $850 million of taxpayer money to build a state-of-the-art football stadium for a man whose fortune has doubled in the past six years to nearly $12 BILLION. Simply indefensible public policy.

The new plan for Atlantic Yards will have more total affordable units than its predecessor, but the increased density permitted is mostly for new market rate. The percentage of affordable units will drop from 35 to 30%, @AYReport astutely points out. citylimits.org/in-atlantic-y…

"While its virtual format can involve a broader geographic audience, it’s also likely to limit the potential alliances & debates that an in-person hearing would bring." Meeting tonight on the latest plans for Atlantic Yards. Catchup via @AYReport: citylimits.org/in-atlantic-y…

Since the goals for which #AtlanticYards was approved under SEQRA still apply, @EmpireStateDev must study the entire project in the Phase II environmental review. Does the new proposed affordability mix better serve public needs than the one cited in 2006 and 2014? Maybe not.
The virtual public hearing on the scope of environmental review for Phase 2 of #AtlanticYards is tonight 9/24 at 6PM. Register at us02web.zoom.us/meeting/regi… to let @EmpireStateDev know your concerns. Read ours at brooklynspeaks.net/phase-2-s….

A new plan for Atlantic Yards promises to build lower-income units up front. Gov. Hochul is on board, and the state’s approval process is starting—with a public meeting tonight—though the full public costs remain unknown. via @AYReport's Norman Oder: citylimits.org/in-atlantic-y…

4/ Curbed says ground is “about to be broken” for Hudson Mosaic at 388 Hudson. Not remotely. The project’s March 2026 schedule put environmental review through summer 2027 and ULURP in 2027. “About to break ground” is not an interpretation. It is chronology fiction.

And if those outside the community don't think this will impact them, it will: The Norwood News was an incubator for tomorrow's journalists. So many came through the paper -- be it freelancers, fellows, interns, or students -- to get clips and gain experience for their next stop. It's a hard pill to swallow.

@JoAnneSimonBK52 deserves praise for speaking up. This news should be on the top of everyone's news feed.
The @EmpireStateDev must release the MOU w/the new Atlantic Yards developers. This project has suffered from 20+ yrs of broken promises & lack of transparency. The community is still waiting for the promised affordable housing & public open space.

The 2005 Atlantic Yards MOU was announced by the Governor & released to face scrutiny normanoder.substack.com/p/th… So, why the secrecy about the project's latest Memorandum of Understanding, outlining timetables, subsidies, and more? @BklynSpeaks @JoAnneSimonBK52 @BKBPReynoso

It's outrageous and unacceptable for a revised #AtlanticYards plan to be heading to public review under SEQRA while @EmpireStateDev withholds the MOU describing the changes. What does @KathyHochul's administration have to hide?

The report notes that the parting will NOT affect Nets or Liberty. Tsai has often said he sees BSE as a generational family business, one that he expects to pass down to his three children.

Most intangible assets lose value over time, so IRS lets buyers amortize them over 15 yrs. Sports teams are unique in that sales price can be >90% intangibles but the franchise & brand appreciate over time. This makes teams a huge tax shield for very rich that should be reformed.

What I think is 25% affordable is better than zero units of any kind.

Check out our interactive map to see where more than 530 affordable units (and counting) have gone missing in New York City It's all because of how a key NYC property tax break program gets used
