I was a refugee. Many forget that I had a happy life -like everyone- before that. I lost everything and now I am a proud Syrian-Canadian entrepreneur. That's my story of second chances & new beginnings.
Becoming a refugee is not a choice

CARL'S Advocacy Co-Chair @ASadinsky:
There is still an open question as to whether the agreement is constitutional. The decision leaves open the possibility that the asylum pact between the two countries could be struck down.

The #STCA gender-based plus analysis found "an acknowledged risk that the Regulations may incentivize asylum claimants to try to enter Canada undetected, possibly leading them to seek assistance from human smugglers or taking dangerous routes to evade application of the STCA."
The quantifiable cost of "modernizing" the Safe Third Country Agreement is $61,453,821 over ten years. Regulatory amendments in the Gazette list numerous positive and negative qualitative impacts. gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p2/2023/…

Closing of Roxham Road to refugees is part of global xenophobic loop to make migration irregular & dangerous, and then weaponize 'illegal migration' to further secure & outsource borders eg. US-Canada Safe Third Country Agreement, UK-Rwanda agreement, US-Mexico Joint Declaration.
Adam Sadinsky retweeted
@MSilcoff: It is impractical to try and seal the border. If you close #RoxhamRoad, another will simply pop up somewhere else. It’s the #STCA itself that pushes people to places like Roxham Road because they can’t apply for asylum at official ports of entry.

Close Roxham Road? ❌
Renegotiate the #STCA to close the entire border? ❌
Create public policy exemptions as a way to resolve the situation right now? ✅
