Join Parent Nation in building a future with paid parental leave so kids get the attention so critical in their first years. For kids 0-3 years old, quality time with parents greatly impacts brain development. Yet, 84% of U.S. private sector workers get no paid parental leave.

It’s tempting to look for a comparison to AI’s massive impact on society. Social media’s an easy one.
In @TheAtlantic, I liken AI to ultraprocessed foods. It looks and acts like what it simulates, but lacks key ingredients for healthy development.

Does technology enhance the human connections in your child's life, or is it beginning to replace them? In our latest Symposium Series conversation, @DrDanaSuskind, author of "Human Raised," explores how we can nurture connection in the age of AI.

Tech companies have armies of engineers optimizing for your kid's attention.
@DrDanaSuskind: "It's not a fair fight."
Her fix? Tiny choices made before the meltdown, before 6pm, before three months in.

The biggest missing piece in AI, roboticist Matthias Scheutz told me, is that “none of our machines care.”
But humans do. And protecting that capacity is at the heart of HUMAN RAISED.
Thank you @TIME for this ❤️

I loved this conversation with @people, especially the question, “This will take time. What should parents be doing now?” That’s exactly the way we should be approaching this topic—as both urgent and ongoing.

Book launch day! So many congrats to my life partner @DrDanaSuskind! Dana's important new book is titled Human Raised: Nurturing Human Connection, Curiosity, and Lifelong Learning in the Age of AI humanraised.org
The book explores the developmental implications of AI's rapid acceleration into childhood and offers evidence-based guidance and frameworks for parents, researchers, policymakers, and anyone thinking seriously about how to navigate this landscape thoughtfully.
I think about this movement in a parallel fashion to what happened a century ago. Back then, food was assumed to be farm-raised because no mechanisms existed to make it otherwise. Until recently, the same was true of children; being raised by humans was a given. But that won’t necessarily be true for long. Elements of human nurturing, soothing, and teaching are already being outsourced to algorithms and machines—and most of us are only beginning to reckon with what that means.
Awesome work Dana! The early returns suggest that you have created another blockbuster!

‘Toy Story 5’ is about tech, but it’s also about something deeper: the need for human connection and the important role the early years play in learning how to find and sustain that connection.
Thank you to @The74 for letting me weigh in here 💚

If a child’s early relationship experiences are filled with endlessly agreeable AI, what will that mean for their ability to attach to messy, imperfect humans?
