On behalf of the Anishinabek Police Service we offer our deepest condolences on this unimaginable tragedy. This incident is felt deeply across the policing community and our thoughts are with all those impacted by this tragic event. @DRPS @APScops
Today, the Durham Regional Police Service is mourning a profound loss following a tragic motor vehicle collision near the Ontario Police College involving two Constables in Training (CIT) who were travelling to training. It is with deep sadness that I share that one CIT has lost their life, while the other remains in life-threatening condition. During this difficult time, our focus is on supporting the families of our CIT's, as well as their classmates, instructors, friends, and members of our Service who are grieving this tragic loss. We will continue to ensure they receive the care and support they need. We ask that the public respect the privacy of the families and all those affected as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy, and as notifications continue. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police, and we will not be providing any further details at this time. - Chief Peter Moreira

A true hero beyond the badge. Constable Lewis reacted with composure and compassion and saved a life. Well done Logan-we are so proud of you! 👏
We’re incredibly proud to share that the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), in partnership with General Motors and OnStar Canada, has recognized the heroic efforts of Anishinabek Police Service Constable Logan Lewis with the Heroes Beyond the Badge Award.   Cst. Logan Lewis’ dedication and responsive instincts made news in July 2025 during a family outing at Harmony Beach. While off duty and relaxing, he heard shouting and realized someone in the water was in trouble. Cst. Lewis jumped in and swam as fast as he could. A young man had slipped below the surface of the water and while another bystander was trying to help, she had not been able to bring the individual up to surface. Cst. Lewis had to dive several times before he was able to pull the young man up from the bottom of the lake. The individual was unresponsive and showing sign of oxygen deprivation, but thanks to Cst. Logan, he survived.   Read more on our Newsroom: anishinabekpolice.ca/ontario…
