Asia-Pacific Healthy Longevity Int'l Summit Opening Remark——Movement II: For thousands of years, people have searched for longevity. We have always wanted to live longer, but we also want to stay healthy and enjoy a good life as we grow older. In Chinese culture, longevity has never simply meant adding more years to life. It is closely connected with health, family, happiness, harmony, and a fulfilling life (in China, one of the most iconic symbols is the Five Bats celebration of longevity, "五蝠祝寿"). Today, science is giving us new ways to understand this ancient aspiration. We have genomics and biomarkers, AI, and digital health. We are learning much more about the biology of aging, prevention, precision medicine, and lifestyle. But one thing is becoming increasingly clear: healthy longevity cannot be created by one technology, one drug, one doctor, or one clinic. It is something we build throughout our lives. Modern medicine has made extraordinary progress in treating disease and saving lives. As people live longer, however, medicine faces another important challenge: Can we do more before disease develops? Can we identify risks earlier, preserve function, and help people remain healthy for longer? This is an important shift—from treating disease alone to paying much greater attention to maintaining health. One message during this Asia-Pacific Summit is: “Healthy Longevity Is a Journey We Walk Every Day.” Healthy longevity does not begin when we turn 60, 70, or 80. It begins much earlier—with how we eat, how we move, how we sleep, how we manage our health risks, and how we stay connected with our families and communities. Science and technology can help us along this journey, but ultimately healthy longevity has to become part of everyday life. That is why the vision of the APLMS is: Healthy Longevity for Everyone: A Way of Life.

CGTN Report: Is healthy aging really possible? Is simply letting nature take its course enough to stay healthy as we age? In this episode of CGTN's Health Talk, Prof. Andrea Maier, Dr. Camillo Ricordi and Dr. Tim Shi share practical advice on healthy longevity and discuss the shared challenges facing global healthcare. The experts explain how modern lifestyles disrupt the body's internal balance and suggest proactive daily habits, including intermittent fasting, cutting back on high-carb breakfasts and combining exercise with cognitive tasks. Beyond individual habits, they stress that shifting healthcare from reactive treatment to proactive disease prevention remains a major global challenge – one that requires cross-border collaboration and resource sharing to overcome.
