Lovely work by @eohomo and colleagues, beuatifully demonstrating how sensory specialisation shapes brain evolution. Like in primates, visual specialisation is associated with expansion of neural pathways including integrative brain regions nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

In my PhD project with @kguschan, we study guenon genomics to learn about speciation processes. In part 1, we focus on ancient hybridization, and found a lot of it. From the top: 1/15

It was fun exploring the macroevolution of lizard-plant mutualisms - pollination, seed dispersal - led by Belinda Kahnt. We show that double mutualisms have emerged from correlated evolution, leading to increased diversification: sciencedirect.com/science/ar… @idiv @Naturalis_Sci

1/8 🧵 Fresh off the press! 📰 Our paper “Human scalp hair as a thermoregulatory adaptation” just got published in PNAS. 🎉 Here’s the summary in a thread…

ALT Graphical abstract describing the research: Curls keep you cool! Tightly curled hair offers greater protection from solar radiation heat We came to this conclusion by running a series of experiments We used lamps to simulate solar radiation We used a thermal manikin to measure heat transfer We put wigs with different textures on the manikin We ran the experiments with different wind speeds and with dry and wet scalps (to simulate sweat) For each combination of factors we measured heat transfer from the scalp Our results likely reflect the fact that tightly curled hair creates more distance between the scalp and the top of the hair
