Why is conversation with ME/CFS so exhausting? Why does it rapidly destroy my energy and exacerbate my symptoms? Even a short conversation is too much. I go from coherent to slow comprehension & response, as well as feeling too unwell to continue. It’s upsetting.

Very late last night a woman text our food bank hotline. 11:49pm. She said “is anyone there can anyone help me plz I have no food my kids are gonna wake up to no food what am I ment to do plz plz even if it’s just for breakfast..” That text was picked up and a call was made. She explained she’s no food and her ex partner was due to help her but he never arrived. She was broken. Payday is two weeks away. Thanks to my amazing team, we stepped up. Two of the Bramwell’s Hope team attended in the early hours of this morning, to ensure her children wake up to house full of food. This is why our food bank exists. To deliver hope during moments of despair. We wish her and her children the very best and we’ve left our details should she need us again 🙌🏽 #foodbank

Sometimes I still can’t believe that I caught a virus and got deathly ill for like 4 years and no one in my real life took me seriously. That shit was traumatizing

The Olympic sprinter now bedbound 22 hours a day with ME following COVID says she’s fortunate as she’s never met anyone who hasn’t believed in her illness, due to her athleticism prior to falling sick. Clearly, she hasn’t met @awgaffney and @nataliesurely yet!
"A lot of people that have this illness that I've spoken to have said to me 'I don't get believed, people think I'm lazy'. I've never experienced one person that doesn't believe me and that's because, why would an athlete just suddenly stop after 20 years?" Very true.

Five years ago, Beth Dobbin was an Olympian Today, ME leaves her in bed 22 hours a day Even this interview could cost her months of health But she spoke anyway, because millions are suffering in silence, and she knows her voice might help them be heard bbc.com/sport/athletics/arti…

That toxic combination of Covid and EBV. Another athlete, another life, devastated. Not even touted as a mystery this time. Will people try harder to reduce Covid risk because of this front page article which did actually mention Covid? bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/ar…

#BethDobbin I think it is extremely important that Beth Dobbin has gone public about her serious bed-bound illness. #ME Almost everyone has posted about it today. Just imagine what would happen if every non-celebrity case were given such prominent coverage in all the newspapers. You don’t have to be a top-tier athlete to end up dying at home, but the major papers would be full of such stories if everyone were as high-profile. Every. Single. Day. Thousands of bedbound stories. Would doctors, government and healthcare officials, and the disgusting "psychology lobby" finally take appropriate action then? I still have my doubts. Is being famous the only thing that validates being "truly" ill? No, of course not. There are so many of us who have been abandoned by society and the healthcare system - for decades - and the number keeps growing and growing. And nothing is changing. My very best wishes and many thanks to Beth Dobbin. @BethDobbin 🙏 #ME #LongCovid #LongEBV #LongPathogens #LongLyme #PoTS #MCAS #SFN #LongVacInjury #LongFQAD #LongCCI #LongList #LongTragedy

THANK YOU @BethDobbin for sharing your story. You are taking risks that nobody with ME should have to take in order to raise awareness. You fought back against minimising language (CFS) and gave a better picture of what the condition is like. I hope your PEM isn’t too awful.

I’m declining rapidly in a way I haven’t in 2 decades of illness. If I disappear, please don’t forget me. I’m either in a dark room struggling to survive, or I’ve passed on.

This is Lee Milne (bottom right), from Dundee. He abused his wife, Kimberly Milne (bottom left), over a prolonged period. Lee seized Kimberly by the neck, restricted her breathing, repeatedly punched her head and body, struck her so she fell and lost consciousness, and repeatedly choked her. He also shouted and swore at her, called her names, tried to cut her off from her family, checked her phone, restricted her movements, and controlled her access to money and transport. The Crown Office also reported that he restrained dragged her, and locked her in their flat without food or money. CCTV from the day Kimberly died showed him acting aggressively towards her. She was seen cowering as he shouted, walking away as he drove at her, and hiding behind a wall. They later walked onto the same flyover. Kimberly climbed over the barrier and fell to her death. The jury found that Milne’s abusive behaviour caused her death. He was convicted of culpable homicide and domestic abuse. He received eight years in prison, followed by three years of supervision. He has lodged an intention to appeal both his conviction and sentence. Eight years in prison cannot bring Kimberly back. But her name must not be lost in the details of this case. This October, as domestic abuse awareness campaigns take place, remember that abuse is not only physical. Coercion, isolation, intimidation and financial control can destroy a person’s safety and independence. Remember her name: Kimberly Milne.
