Interesting ...
OpenAI starts refusing normal work for a real firearms industry data business. Wouldn’t look at an ammo dealer’s site. Couldn’t pull range policies. Wanted to lecture the owner. So the founder built 3 servers with 12 AMD R9700s for $32.2k. Same workload that six Mac Studios did at 12 jobs/min now runs at 175 jobs/min. 15× throughput. No API changes. No model drift. Models they chose on hardware they own. Love this qoute: "If the model can change at any time, we can’t build business processes on it." This isn’t a basement experiment. It’s infrastructure. Sometimes local isn’t a side project. Local AI stops being a hobby the moment the cloud starts breaking your actual business.

Tried to fix a temperature issue and found the cause was someone using the machine to mine crypto ...
❗️ A Mac user says Claude Code was building them a temperature monitor app when it found a cryptominer using 12 cores. The readings looked too high, so it checked the CPU and found XMRig at ~1175%, with the chip at 112°C.

That time jump-rope skills saved a man from serious injury ... Check out the yellow shirt ...
On September 11, 2003, a routine landing aboard the USS George Washington turned into a terrifying disaster when an F/A-18 Hornet caught the aircraft carrier’s final arresting cable. Designed to bring fighter jets to a controlled stop, the massive steel cable was stretched beyond its limits and suddenly snapped. With nothing left to slow it down, the aircraft continued across the flight deck and plunged into the ocean. Fortunately, the pilot managed to eject and was safely rescued. But the greatest danger wasn’t the falling aircraft. The broken arresting cable, which had been under tremendous tension, violently recoiled across the flight deck at speeds reportedly exceeding 100 mph. Seven crew members suffered serious injuries, including three who were critically hurt and required emergency helicopter evacuation. In one of the most astonishing moments, a yellow-shirted deck crew member managed to avoid the whipping cable twice, narrowly escaping a potentially fatal strike. The terrifying incident demonstrated just how dangerous aircraft carrier operations can be, even during what should have been a routine landing.

Learned something new today ...
Oct 18, 1767 is the date usually given for the completion of the Mason-Dixon line. It was drawn to end a family feud and ended up dividing the country. For about 80 years, the Penn family of Pennsylvania and the Calvert family of Maryland fought over where one colony ended and the other began. Their royal charters overlapped. Read one way, Maryland's charter put Philadelphia inside Maryland. Settlers on the border fought, burned each other's homes, and got arrested by rival sheriffs. In 1760 the families finally agreed on a boundary and hired two Englishmen to mark it: an astronomer named Charles Mason and a surveyor named Jeremiah Dixon. They arrived in 1763 and spent almost five years on the job. They used the stars to fix their position and cut a wide path through forests and over mountains. Every mile they set a stone marker shipped from England. Every fifth mile they set a larger crownstone, carved with the Penn coat of arms on one side and the Calvert arms on the other. They pushed about 230 miles west from the Delaware River before their Native escorts refused to go farther into contested land along a great war path. The line stopped there until it was finished years later. After Pennsylvania began abolishing slavery in 1780, the line took on a new meaning. It became the symbolic border between the free North and the slave South. Some people think the word Dixie came from Dixon's name. Nobody is sure.

Who gets name-dropped most on X to borrow credibility? Here's a count of English posts from Oct 12–19 using phrasing like "X says," "according to X," and "even X": 1. Elon Musk – 18,735 2. Jensen Huang – 1,357 3. Mark Zuckerberg – 799 4. Michael Saylor – 597 5. Albert Einstein – 359 6. Sam Altman – 321 7. Bill Gates – 288 8. Warren Buffett – 275 9. Jeff Bezos – 200 10. Satya Nadella – 198 Musk out-drops the next nine combined, by 4x. Karpathy? 20th. Really thought Karpathy would score higher (by the look of my feed). And Einstein (who's been dead for more than 70 years) still gets credit for quotes he never said. 🤔

Are y'all following this event? Are the interceptors planning to ram, push the objective satellite out of orbit, or are they carrying explosives, or something else? @grok what facts can you share about this?
Crazy that we live in a time to watch a (presumably hostile) satellite interception from ground telescopes. COSMOS is within a few km of ICEYE here. 😬 Gorgeous footage though!

Russian Kosmos 2612 and ICEYE-X36 (providing Ukraine military support) are now in perfect sync with each other. The Russian military satellite is intentionally stalking and tracking the Western radar satellite. Keeping a satellite "bumper-to-bumper" in this manner allows Russia to intercept or jam data transmissions, physically inspect Western technology, or quickly pivot to execute a kinetic or non-kinetic anti-satellite (ASAT) attack with very little warning or fuel expenditure. Kosmos 2612 executed a series of highly precise, fuel-heavy maneuvers to force itself into a "coplanar" orbit—matching ICEYE-X36's exact altitude (~555 km), speed, and inclination (~97.8°). The ICEYE-X36 satellite is giving the Ukraine military support.

Of course can't work SSB with BTECH UV-PRO ... Currently have to use IC-705 Pairing for that. Still a fun project. The app fixes some of the complaints I've had with amateur radio systems since joining the hobby ~4 years ago. Namely: Finding someone to talk to. 🙂

Milton was one of the hardest hit places in the hurricane. K4AA (the top POTA activator in EM50/60) was right in the middle of it ...
I didn't know it at the time, but this was #HurricaneIsaias arriving. It was predicted to strike later. Recorded Friday, October 9th, 2026, in Santa Rosa County, Florida; which was under mandatory evacuation. #HurricaneIsaias2026
