Yesterday a majority of Virginians voted to enshrine ballot questions 1 and 2 in our state's Constitution, eliminating important health and safety regulations surrounding abortion and striking the good and true language affirming the sacred institution of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Despite this tragic outcome, faithful Catholics can rejoice in knowing that God will not allow our efforts to be in vain.

Cardinal Ernest Simoni has a crazy story of faith amid persecution. After offering Mass in 1963 for assassinated President John F. Kennedy, he was sentenced to death. His sentence was commuted, but he spent nearly 30 years imprisoned in Albania, enduring torture and forced labor.

Dear friends, during some recent medical examinations, the doctors found a small, localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well-localized. The doctors believe that it is best to intervene, so, following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it. The operation is already scheduled to take place in the coming days. I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.
