Thames Water is due to run out of money (again) over the next few weeks. A year and a half ago it was given a £3 billion bailout now it's asking for another £2.4 billion. We really are being taken for mugs. theguardian.com/business/202…

“A samurai sword, a meat cleaver and babies' passports are among the items seized in raids by illegal money lending investigators.” This is the reality of debt in this country. Illegal loan sharks and “legitimate” bailiffs are 2 ends of the same problem. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cgrl…

Rent controls save renters money. They save the government money. The only people being protected by refusing to introduce them are landlords.
🆕 Research shows that rent caps could save the government £1.1bn by 2031. Relinking Local Housing Allowance to real rents is expensive when rents spiral. But rent controls could slow inflation and reduce the cost of future LHA uplifts. jrf.org.uk/housing/how-rent-… @jrf_uk

🔥 We took on four major water companies and won. Last month, ACORN members occupied offices, blockaded roads and confronted water bosses over rising bills, debt and the use of bailiffs. In the weeks since, all four water companies targeted have come to the negotiating table.

“That was a brand new machine 6 years ago” so… not brand new then?
Tenant reported this morning that the washing machine is causing flood. Is it just me or does that sound like a tenant problem, not a landlord problem? Honestly, people need to take responsibility. That was a brand new machine 6 years ago. Clearly putting too much heavy load or something…where do we draw the line?

That is, until ACORN sounded the alarm, scrambling members from across North Liverpool and Bootle, and forced the landlord to return possession. Our members then helped load the van, making sure everything and everyone was moved out safely 💪

Have you heard the one about the landlord who tried to illegally evict an ACORN member and reposses all their belongings, on the day they were due to move out anyway, for the sake of one single hour? 🧵
