This short report sets out the many problems with the applications system in jails - a huge cause of prisoner frustration- they often can’t get basic requests dealt with such as getting a medical appointment or asking for a prison move to be nearer to an elderly relative.
Today we published our report ‘Easier said than done: resolving prisoner requests’. It reveals how difficult it is for prisoners to get even simple things done in jail.
Read the report: hmiprisons.justiceinspectora…
And media release: hmiprisons.justiceinspectora…

ALT Prisoners rely almost entirely on staff to manage their everyday requests, either through informal conversations or by submitting formal, written ‘applications’. But staff shortages and inexperience can mean prisoners do not always get the help they need. This can lead to frustration and poor behaviour.
